Hi
I have a seales copy of: "Song of the south" Disney LD from Hong kong her,
how much is this disc worth? This might be the only unopened copy in the
world.
The disc is a rental disc from HK/Taiwan made in 300-600 copies. A friend
of mine found 20 discs (unopened) in a warehouse in HK 5-10 years ago. and I
never opened my copy. he only bought 10 of them :-(

In about 1 year from now, it's not going to be worth more than $10.00,
since it seems likely that Disney is going to finally release the film
on DVD for it's 60th anniversary. About a year or two ago, it probably
would've fetched $1,500-$2,000.

Ah come on, it will be just as good as Fantasia.

Well, he did say "since it seems likely" rather than stating it as fact.

Is it so inconceivable? Remember what the Sicilian thought about

The market got flooded with these sealed copies of Song of the South.
It used to be a great collectors item but now the most you'll get for
it is $200 if you are VERY lucky.

First time I have heard that story.
Where was this flood?

They were NOT sealed, but during the winter of 2002-2003, there were
exactly four Hong Kong LDs of SOTS auctioned off on eBay in a
four-month span. The first was sold by our own Bernie Woodham for
$1,500, which may have been (or still is!) a record for the price paid
on eBay for a single-disc LD. The others were sold in the $900-$1,100
range (one from a guy in The Netherlands, one from a guy in Ohio, and
one from a guy in England -- but who was of Chinese ancestry, IIRC).
That's the only "flood" that I can remember.

To this date, there have been two more auctioned off since then, but
the reserve was not met for either auction IIRC. That would hardly
constitute a "flood" IMHO, though.

Perhaps. But, will the new DVD be the ORIGINAL, UNCUT film, or will
Disney be politically correct and cut out anything that might be deemed
offensive to blacks?

Maybe they'll send the film to George Lucas to "re-imagine" it the way
it was "meant" to be seen.

What you're seeing is the Japanese Laserdisc of Song of the South. The
laserdisc under discussion is the Hong Kong Laserdisc of Song of the South.

Different animals.

I doubt it will be on DVD. Disney won't release it because certain groups will complain about it. You know which ones. Anyways, I found this funny:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AhOMBFHpvTM

I think this would explain everything. Watch it starting from 1:46 in the video.

Anyways, I can't get it. Why is there a song released from the movie, a ride based off of it, a Sing Along Songs tape, and stuffed animals. But, yet Disney still refuses to release the movie. Makes no sense. The ride is just as racist as the movie. But, Disney hasn't closed the ride down. Disney just makes NO sense whatsoever.
