I've been editing for a while with a PC. Today Mac announced the new dual 1ghz G4's. Is Final Cut Pro the only thing that seperates PC's and Mac's for editing? What makes Mac's "so good?" I'm thinking about getting one but don't know a thing about them.

Perhaps your question would be better answered on an "apple" forum. As you said most folks around here are pc heads. I would like to know the same things you asked so if you find the answer come back to us and post a link.

I went looking for head to head benchmarks of a PC and Mac. THey used quake 3 and Photoshop for the comaprison. In most cases the PC was twice as fast as the Mac. Other times the PC was about 10-15% faster.

well i would personally like to see some benchmarks of the upcoming g5, it looks to be quite nice. any pc133 ram is compatible along with hdds and i know a few people that are using pc agp cards in macs. well the thing with macs are, it's not obsolete in 6 months. i know plenty of people that are still humming along nicely on beige g3's. they are considered to be less "hassle" where you can worry about the work you have to get done, not trying to be a hardware tech. it's all subjective really. i know designers and musicians that swear by macs and i know just as many that swear by pc's too. pcs crash, macs crash, neither is perfect. just like any other trade, the computer is a tool. each has it's strengths, it's weaknesses. it's up to you to decide which best fits you and your workflow and no matter which one, gets the job done for you.
