I'm looking for a raw converter for my new Mac. Bibble is a
possibility, but is there anything else (preferably at no or little
cost) which is as good as UFRAW for Linux?

I want to be able to do considerable manipulation in RAW (exposure,
shadow, colour, balance), not just convert them to jpeg

I just use PhotoShop.

I don't, thats why I need a RAW converter - also general opinion seems
to be that PS RAW converter is not the best and most flexible.

Capture One LE but it's not free (about $99). For Canon RAW files it
does a noticeably better job than either the Canon software or
Photoshop.

Raw Shooter Essentials is very good and free but I think it's PC-only
for now.

If you like UFRAW, why not just use it on your Mac?

Download and installation instructions here:

http://ufraw.sourceforge.net/Install.html

I expect you'll need to have X11 installed.

I use Capture One and love it, but it's expensive. I've stopped using
it, but doesn't iPhoto handle RAW files natively now w/o touching the
embeded jpeg?

I hope so, I have ordered an iBook :)

Iphoto 2.0.1 will not open a Canon raw file. I just tried. But the
current version of GraphicConverter (shareware $35) will.

Yeah, but support is mediocre.

iPhoto is up to at least v. 5.0.4, and as an experiment, I just imported
a RAW file from my 20-D. Easy. I purchased GraphicConverter ages ago,
and it's one of the best shareware programs around, but not intuitive to me.

Normally, I use PS CS to process my RAW files, and find it's all right,
and I especially like the scripts available for batch processing.

Preview on the Mac does CRW files. Not as flexible as other options
but you've alreday got it on your Mac.

Yup. It will do the basics. That's version 3 with MacOS X 10.4

Yes, but (AFAIK) it just converts them to jpeg without giving you any of
the benefits of using RAW
