Hey all, I have been going back and forth, trying to find an answer but can't find one pertaining specifically to my situation. I'm wondering if the Sapphire HD 6770 1GB 128-bit GPU will be good enough for me to run games on max settings at a resolution of 1360 x 768. Right now I can get it at $99 on Newegg, but I may upgrade my monitor within the next year to a full 1080p monitor. I am wondering if the 6770 would suffer a lot if I make the jump to 1080p. If that is the case then should I go for the Gigabyte GTX 460 1GB 192-bit GPU, is it worth the $40 price jump? Quick responses would be very much appreciated :)

I am a Sapphire HD 6770 user. I'm pretty much happy with it. What are you planning to subject it with anyway? It's pretty much a mid-end graphics card. Good value and performance too.

Don't go for GTX 460 192 bit. Get a 6850. If you make the jump to 1080p, the 6770 won't be nearly enough.

I have purchased most of my build, just need the GPU and mobo. Would be pairing the GPU with this harware:

CPU is an i5 2300 2.8GHz (Was on sale for $170 otherwise would have gone with the 2400)
8GB of G.SILL Ripjaws 1333MHz
Biostar TZ68A+ Motherboard
Seagate 320GB barracuda 7200RPM HDD (salvaged from current PC)

Ya my original thought was a 6850, $150 GPU is pushing my budget, how long would you estimate a 6850 would last me before I would need to upgrade? A couple years?

You spent too much on RAM and the CPU. -.-

At your 1360 x 768 a 6770 will be great. Max settings on all games is tough to do with some of the games out there, but you'll be happy with a 6770. However, if you plan to go to 1920x1080 then you should get a 6850 bare minimum.

If you didn't see it already, you might be interested to know that the 7770 and the 7750 launched. They are nice but overpriced compared to the superior 6850. Check out the review for the benchmarks that compare the 5770/6770 (same thing) and the 6850. http://www.tomshardware.com/review [...] ,3135.html

I have a 5770. Same as the 6770. I game at 1680x1050 on nearly max settings, I rarely go past 2x on Anti-Aliasing. But with Skyrim, BF3, Crysis, Metro, Anno and most current games I am really starting to notice it's age, some games dip under 30fps in harsh gaming. and others like BF3 I simply can't game on high graphics once I go past 1440x900..

I really reccomend going with a better GPU if you are planning on upping the resolution. If you're sticking with your current res. than yes a 6770 is fine. But even a 6850 would be pushing it on 1080p. For that I say 6870 or better.

The mentioned GTX 460 is not worth the extra cash - and if you're definitely going to 1080p in the future, get an HD 6870. If not, get an HD 7750 - it will game better at 768p on newer/future games than an HD 6770/5770, especially if you overclock it. And no 6-pin connector required!

Thanks for the quick feedback everyone, think I am going to go with the 6770 for my current monitor. $150 is pushing my budget and since a 6770 is enough for my current resolution I think I will save my extra $50 and hopefully by the time I pick up a new monitor the price on the 6850 or better GPUs will be a bit lower.

Oh, I'll check into that GPU out seeing as it's only $110 on Newegg

If every setting need not be "Ultra" or "Max," you are likely to find the HD6770 perfectly adequate even at 1920x1080.

Keep a close eye on Newegg for the next 24 hours if you want one. The first HD 7750 released has sold out already.
