Additional Comments: I currently have a pavilion a1700n with amd athlon 64x2, 4gb ram, nvidia geforce 6150 le, 250gb hdd , win7. I would like a more responsive system, mine lags at times and the video stops or lags while viewing clips in 720p. The hdd is about to go as well.

Edit: The PSU gives you room to add a graphics card later, like the 6570 or something. However, if you think the graphics on the CPU is enough for you, switching to this PSU will probably save you a few bucks:

least important - 'amateur photo/video editing' - what he wants is an all around basic PC - and Intel trumps AMD (unfortunately), in everything these days, including power consumption - if he wanted mainly a video editing PC for that price point - then I'd agree and recommend the AMD... but in this case - best to go with Intel i3

Get an i5 2400 and you'll mop the floor with any AMD rig, sad to say but it's true. As for something to be aware of. Microcenter has the i5 2400 for $150.
