[Solved] My first gaming build
Forum Homebuilt Systems : New Build [Solved] My first gaming build
Hello there!
I recently started to think about building my first computer.
After looking on different guides and things on the internet, I chosed approximately what I wanted, and here it goes:
Processor: i5-2500k ---- http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Produ [...] 6819115072
Motherboard: ASRock P67 EXTREME4 GEN3 ---- http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Produ [...] 6813157265
Memory: G.SKILL Ripjaws Series 8GB (2 x 4GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM ---- http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Produ [...] 6820231314
Video card: HIS IceQ X Turbo H695QNT2G2M Radeon HD 6950 2GB 256-bit ---- http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Produ [...] 6814161372
Power supply: CORSAIR Enthusiast Series TX750 V2 750W ATX12V v2.31/ EPS12V v2.92 80 PLUS BRONZE ---- http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Produ [...] 6817139021
Dvd burner: ASUS 24X DVD Burner ---- http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Produ [...] 6827135204
Hard drive: Western Digital Caviar Green WD10EARX 1TB IntelliPower 64MB Cache SATA 6.0Gb/s 3.5" ---- http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Produ [...] 6822136939
Case: AZZA Solano 1000R Black / Red Japanese ---- http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Produ [...] 6811517006
Fan/Heatsink: COOLER MASTER Hyper 212 EVO ---- http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Produ [...] 6835103099
All of this would go for $1,251.21 on newegg.ca with the shipping and the combo I picked.
I would like to know if that build fits right. Do I need to buy something more for building my computer? (I already have the monitor, keyboard, mouse, etc.) Would you replace something and why? There's so many model for everything, I have to say I was pretty lost.
And I wonder if there's a way to lower the total price a little bit while not affecting the performance too much. I might need some help on what to change for that.
I might change the computer case. It's pretty expensive imo.
The computer is only for gaming purposes.
Thanks in advance. If you have any questions for me, go for it! ^^
- Mobo: The ASRock Z68 Extreme3 Gen3 will save you $30. It has everything you need for your build.

- Case: The CM HAF 922 is spacious with good air flow - nice reviews too. Plus it saves you a little bit.

http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Produ [...] 6817139020 100$
Motherboard : ASRock Z68 Extreme3 Gen3
http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Produ [...] 6813157271 150$
Case : COOLER MASTER HAF 922
http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Produ [...] 6811119197 110$
COOLER MASTER HAF 922 BLUE

you dont need a 750w unless you want cross fire in future
dont get intellispeed hard drive, they are slow. get something with 7200rpms and 6gb sata

Well, I would save 15$ with http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Produ [...] 6817139020
But if I go with that combo: http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Combo [...] mbo.824647, i'm saving 15$ too. So I might just go with the 750W.
I changed my motherboard for http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Produ [...] 813157271.
Right now i'm looking to replace the case and the hard drive.

Don't get a green drive. They're terrible for OS. Get the samsung f3 1TB or a WD Blue or Black
That's what I thought too about the hard drive, but I wasn't sure.
I won't mind getting a 500g one too if it can save some money.
That's better. If you're fine with 500gb for the moment I see no reason why to get higher capacity
What do you think about those ones? http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Produ [...] ageSize=20
I wonder if there's many differences between brands.
Personally, I wouldn't go for Hitachi drives as I've heard other users experience with it. Samsung, WD and Seagate are the ones I'd picked, but there's bound to be failures among any drives so it's also a bit of luck
I guess i'm gonna go with http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Produ [...] 6822136769 for the hard drive and with http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Produ [...] 6811147107 for the case.
The price went down to $1,158.87.
Any more suggestions? ^^
I agree with the sugestion of the z68 based motherboard. I prefer Asus myself. I'd never spend $190 on an Asrock.
For the video Card I'd suggest the 2GB version of the 6950. I also like Asus and Gigabyte for video cards. XFX is good but overpriced for the lifetime warranty. Asus has great warranty on video cards.
I like the Antec true power power supplies. I've never seen an Antec fail in 15 years as a shop owner and all I sold was Antec. And for the case the Antec 300 series is nice. If you want a side window the Zalman Z6 Plus is an amazing deal at under $70.
Have you considered a Blueray burner. They are under $100. The blanks are not that expensive if you buy them through www.blankmedia.ca They have great quality media at good prices for us Canadians.
Stay away form the green hard drive. It's slow as heck. Not even 7200RPM. It's an energy efficient model. I like Seagate Barracuda XT myself, I find them the most reliable drives. Consider a 128GB Crucial M4. It's a top SSD at a good price. It'll boost your performance so much its unbelievable.
Consider 16GB of RAM. The price is so amazing on memory why not?
For the heatsink check out www.frostytech.com and make you decision based on what is available.
Also check out www.directcanada.com I like them better than newegg. They also have better pricing usually then newegg on most items. Also very great shipping rates by purolator...better than newegg. When putting a system together I usually purchase mostly form directcanada and a few parts from newegg depending on availability.
Why wouldn't you spend $190 on an Asrock?
And what would you suggest me instead of it? Something that would be as good as http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Produ [...] 6813157271 would be nice.
What are u planning on playing? Are you planning on overclocking? Some of the things you're trying to get aren't on sale right now. If it isn't urgent, I suggest you wait for parts to gradually go on sale. That alone would save you probably 100-150 bucks.

I'm planing to play mainly MMORPGs. Nothing in particuliar right now tho.
I never overclocked before, but I plan on doing so.
Just gotta find some guides on the net or so.
Anyways, right now I guess I would go with:
Processor: http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Produ [...] 6819115072
Motherboard: http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Produ [...] 6813157271
Video card: http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Produ [...] 6814161372
Hard drive: http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Produ [...] 6822136769
Memory: http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Produ [...] 6820231314
Power supply: http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Produ [...] 6817139021 (Comes in combo with the graphic card, so it's the same price as a 650W.)
Case: http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Produ [...] 6811147107
Heatsink/fan: http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Produ [...] 6835103099
DVD burner: http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Produ [...] 6827135204
This is going for $1,158.87 with combos and shipping.
I'm still looking to lower the total price without affecting the performances too much.
I don't mind changing brands for whatever items if it can give me a better quality/price.
I'd like to get some more replies if possible before building my comp.
I hope some more people can help me. ^^
Its a great build.

I'm sorry to "revive" my old thread, but instead if creating another, i'll just ask here since it shows my build up there.
I'm still wondering for the video card. There's so many on the market, I don't know at all which one I should be getting.
And should I look on the Gforce or on the Nvidia side?
If you suggest me a video card, i'd like to know why I should go with that one in particuliar.
I don't plan in crossfire or sli, but may want to overclock.
EDIT: Resolution: 1600x900
Don't...

geforce and nvidia are more like same just so you know, well it would be Nvidia or AMD for the GPU since ati = amd right now....
if you want pure power go with amd 7970 unless nvidia released their 680 or something, if you want good performance for the price it would be the his/sapphire hd 6850 or the 6870 amd radeon
or if you got more to spend go with the MSi GTX560ti 448 Twin Frozr III/OC 1.2gb or the MSi Gtx560ti twin frozr II/OC 2GB
