Dilema
Forum CPU & Components : CPUs Dilema
Hey everybody,
So heres what I did. I bought this CPU (Pentium E5700 Wolfdale 3.0GHz LGA 775) and foolishly attempted to install it in my old MS-7222 mobo. When clearly in the manual it states it can only handle a 2.8ghz dual core. Well I believe the mobo is fried now. With the old cpu back in it (the new one didnt allow it to do anything except blackscreen and clicking) alls I get is to the bios for a minute before it clicks and powers off.
What I'm wondering now is if I should buy the mobo that works for that CPU or is that CPU possibly fried as well? I really hope not atleast.
The cpu should be fine and iv never heard of mobo's having clock limits

Yea me neither. But looking over the instruction manual pdf I downloaded. It says 2.8 is the limit. Doesnt surprise me cause its old as heck. I was just trying to breathe some new life back into it. But looks like I will be doing more than I thought and getting a new mobo. To allow for even further upgrades
But if you think the cpu should be fine. Then so do I!
Yh just go for another mobo, You can get a decent one for cheap, If your using ddr2 ram then i recommend this one - http://www.ebuyer.com/231358-gigab [...] m=products
Well I've found this one -
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Prod [...] 6813130556
That will work for that CPU right? Knowing me, theres something I overlooked.
And I actually have some DDR3 RAM my friend gave me but never was able to use.
I personally wouldnt go for an msi board, If you want to use the DDR3 ram then this is a very good board, i have it myself - http://www.ebuyer.com/267114-gigab [...] m=products
If you cant find it from a usa retalier then im sure the msi board would be fine though
Ok, thank you for your help.
Now to do some shopping around
No bother
Glad i could hope
Good luck in finding what you want
