GO CUBS GO!!!!!!

My dad and I are working on a house. This is the first time he has taken a project with LAN through to the end (meaning the cabinet part). He wants to buy the Leviton cabinet stuff, but I was unimpressed. I priced it out online, and it was $700+. I would like to put in a 19" rack to make it a little more standard. Here's what I found. Any suggestions as to what I've got or where to buy? If it doesn't have a price, it is a second option... The guy has about 18 phone, 16 Network, and 14 Coax ports through the house.

It's hard to say. If you're wiring Cat5e, go with Cat5e patch panels. The racks is another story. Most just have holes drilled in them and you eventually find them to line up. I prefer to order stuff from www.blackbox.com, yeah it might cost a little extra, but you can pass that expense on in your business. It's a well known name and if someone looks at your work they won't say you didn't have good equipment. Granted it's a rack and patch panel but go with a good name, you'll get good equipment AND you'll start to get discounted deals from them once you start buying from them. No more using websites to find the cheapest prices.

Now for you switch.. go with a linksys.

Check for it on Buy.com or newegg.com. You might find it for around $110. Plus, it's fiber ready which is a plus if he wants to run long runs instead of cat 6 somewhere.

When you're doing network equipment, you really don't want to skimp out on the cheap stuff. You might charge the person an extra 200 dollars for the stuff I just listed.. but it'll be well worth it because you have a reputable company behind in, not the cheapest price. In networking, you really do get what you paid for.
