Hi Guys,
I just bought one of these on eBay and I need to pick the brains of the
experts to get a little info so I came here, lol...

1... I understand that 256 is the highest RAM I can use in this laptop
but is that enough to enable me to watch DVDs on the laptop?
There doesn't seem much point in buying a DVD module if it won't work
properly.
The laptop is currently running Win98SE but if it makes any major
difference, I could upgrade to XP Home.

2... Is there a simple way to make the lid less stiff?
The laptop has a slight crack near one of the hinges probably caused
because the lid is so tight on there.
I knew about this before I bought the laptop but at £50 I couldn't
refuse, lol.

Thanks guys.
Steve

256 is enough, at least for some. My desktop has 256MB and Win 98, and
it has a DVD player.

More importantly is the processor? Is it a Pentium II or III? I was
planning to add a DVD player to my Pentium II desktop and learned that
it was a hopeless case. Later, I got a Pentium III, and it already has
it.

You might do a search for the requirements for the DVD players.

If you don't buy a dvd decoder then the dvd playback will be choppy.
Get a margi dvd-to-go decoder card. In the cpi it will go on the top
pcmcia slot which has card bus. Once you get the decoder to work you
will enjoy watching dvd movies on your cpi. You can run win98, ME or
XP witht the 256MB of ram. Good luck.

I have the CPiA400 with 128MB ram. I've watched DVDs on it. Occasional
hitch in the display, but not objectionable.
