Hello,
I have a win7 system up and running, but i want to migrate it over to a ssd(120gb x2) in raid 1. I was wondering what I have to do to go this route. I run a i5 2500k on a z68 mobo that supports raid1 and trim as well. let me know?
You will have to reinstall from scratch. The OS will require the RAID drivers to get going for one thing.
Ok well I guess I could just image the ssd for backup and just use one ssd? What about doing that and forgetting raid
Well you won't gain any real world benefits from RAID 0 and controllers are not really set up for TRIM right now though that is changing. You would get the benefit of more capacity but if I was you I would swap the two SSD's for a single larger one. Having one as a backup is a waste really.
That's what I figured. So can I do a single 120gb ssd and use my current image of my hd? Also my board is trim enabled and so is windows 7 correct?
Yes, you can use the image on the SSD. Don't know about your Mobo, but your SSD (Most Probably) and Win 7 are TRIM enabled.

I am pretty sure my mobo supports it. It's a asrock z68 pro 3. It has sata 6 and the Efi bios. So it's pretty new, but how do I know if it supports trim?
I meant, the Mobo has got nothing to do with TRIM.

O ok I heard that the sata Controler has to have ahci for it to work, I could be wrong
Not necessary, it will work in either IDE or AHCI, of course AHCI has advantages but that is the difference between IDE mode and AHCI mode nothing to do with the TRIM thing.
TRIM has not yet been implemented in the RAID Mode settings so that may just have to wait.

TRIM is non-specific to either SATA controller mode, and will work equally well in both IDE and AHCI-mode. Benchmark Reviews will soon publish a detailed report that illustrates the recovery levels for each SSD controller tested here.

Under Windows 7 that means you have to use a Microsoft made IDE or AHCI driver (you can't install chipset drivers from anyone else).

O ok well that's reassuring. I'm glad you shed some light, because I hear so many different things about ssd and configuration lol that Idk what to believe.
TRIM will not work in a RAID volume and AHCI has better performance than IDE. IMHO, the most valuable thing you can do is a fresh install and not a migration there are so many unknowns that seem to pop up with migrations, most being recognized performance issues.
