I have an 80g sata II intel SSD. I just installed some new hardware (mobo/cpu/gpu etc) and on my first bootup it gave me a (Y/N) question prompt right before the windows login screen. It has something to do with AHCI mode. I'm not entirely sure what i had my old mobo set to before, but any help with this? I assume one of the settings would increase performance or something like that.

AHCI should definatly be enabled.

if you have replaced your MOBO then you should DEFINATLY reinstall windows. windows does not take to large hardware changes well.

ok that didn't work well at all LOL. I set it to AHCI and i couldn't boot at all, it wanted to repair..had to go into bios and switch it back to IDE. Care to explain what the difference between the two is?

Also to answer your comment, when i booted up it just asked to re-verify windows. Everything works fine.

You have to set AHCI mode before installing the OS. if you want to switch it after installing the OS, you have to manually edit the registry, reboot, and then switch to AHCI.

Just get it running then look up the article on the Microsoft web site that tells you how to switch to AHCI mode. You merely have to change one registry data item which then tells Windows to use the AHCI driver during the next boot.
