Will I need to upgrade my cooling unit to OC?

Forum Overclocking : General Discussion Will I need to upgrade my cooling unit to OC?

Word :    Username :

So I bought the new FX-8150 and a Gigabyte 990fx ud3 mobo. I know the overclocking won't be that difficult (but it will be my first time). My question is will I need to upgrade my cooler before I OC.

I bought my pc from Ibuypower, and I researched it and it looks like the cooler I got was the Asetek 550LC.

Any help on this would be great! Thanks

Start your OC slowly and just monitor your temps to make sure they are in a safe range. If they are getting high, look at other cooling options then.

What is the "safe range" I have been looking but I haven't found the temp ranges.

Different CPU's and Motherboards have diffrent setting and capabilities, so overclocking is a trial and error thing, just be careful and watch the temp of the CPU cores, because as you put more voltage on the cores, you will also increase the temp. I suggest downloading the CPU-Z, H/W Monitor and Real Temp, these softwares will help you monitor the entire system of you PC.

Thanks aqe. I just looked closer, and it looks like i got the asetek 510L so i will be upgrading to the corsair h80 before I try and OC and I have seen the cpu-z pics showin in almost every benchmark vid posted out there. Where is a reliable source to download that from?

CPUID.COM is the site.

Looks like the max safe temp is 61 C:

But I do not know how that is measured.
