i have a question about overclocking i got a core i5 2500k that was at 3.7 but is now at 4.2 GHz and the core voltage is set to 1.370 my temps range from core 0 56 c, core 1 62 c, core 2 64 c. core 3 57 c. i had just started running a program called prime 95 i was just wondering if the temperatures are normal so far or is it getting to hot for my processor?

Max operating temperature is listed at 72C. I don't know though if those temps are normal at that voltage.

under 75(some would say 70) or so is safe.

lower is always better.

I have seem higher on stock cooling at stock speeds.

it's not a stock out of the box from intel i got a cooler master v6 gt cooler. so is it safe to say that at these settings my processor is safe from burning up?

As long as it's under the max temp, it should function as it was intended. Running higher voltages and higher temps technically shortens the total lifespan though. I say technically because shortening a lifespace of 15 years to 10 years doesn't really make a difference nor mean anything at all to almost everybody. But you always run the risk that CPU won't be able to handle it for years on end.

Despite that though, I would say I'd agree with you if it were my own CPU. As long as I can stay a few degrees below the max when overclocking then I feel comfortable with it. God only knows how many CPUs I've ran through the gauntlet lol.

That is my point, even overclocked you run cooler then the stock cooler. so...safe :)

At 4.2GHz, you can probably lower the voltage - under 1.34V. Save on the power bill and cuts heat output.
