hey guys

i am having an issue with my cpu temps using the intel stock cooler when the pc is idle, its normal 30-33 more or less

but under pressure it jumps to 72 and when using prime95 to see how far it will go it gets 82C in 161 Secs ?!
though i think even under normal pressure (gaming etc) it should much lower than that

what could be the problem ?

thanks alot

Well, it is a stock cooler. It's not going to perform as well as any aftermarket cooler. If you want lower temps, buying a reputable aftermarket cooler will drastically lower your temperatures.

Those temps are high even for a stock cooler. I would suggest you at least get some new TIM (Arctic Silver 5) and reapply according to these instructions.

But for the money you are going to spend on TIM you should just invest it in a better cooler.

Hyper 212

Edit: Wow, that Hyper 212 is 19.99 after a $10 mail in rebate.

With the stock cooler you must make sure that the pins 'snap' into place. You sometimes have to press fairly hard in order to get them in properly.

I suspect that this is your problem.

Why would you run prime95 on a stock cooler? That's dangerous! Buy an aftermarket CPU cooler(air/liquid) specially if you plan to play high demanding games like skyrim, BF3. Its an invest to have a decent CPU cooler to lengthen the life of the CPU.

Running Prime95 is fine on any cooler, just have to monitor your temps like the OP is doing.

Also, you don't need an aftermarket cooler unless you are really over clocking your cpu. If you want to buy one, it will not hurt your cpu, but it is not a necessity.

In fact, I believe that using anything other than the stock cooler voids the cpu warranty.... If so, mine is voided hehe
