Windows Check Disk always starts on computer boot

Forum Windows XP : General Discussion Windows Check Disk always starts on computer boot

My Windows boot stops halfway to do a disc file check on the external hard drive but locks into it and can't stop except to cut power. It does allows 10 seconds to stop file check by pressing any key, but that means that you need to sit and wait for thr the message to abort the file check. How can I eliminate this automatic file check action?
Thanks, Bill

Run a command prompt as administrator and use this:

CHKNTFS /X D:

Substitute D: with your drive letter. you may want to run chkdsk manually on this drive later to make sure it's ok.
