Unable to save Exchange credentials as normal user - works as admin

Forum Windows XP : Security Unable to save Exchange credentials as normal user - works as admin

Ok, this one has been irritating me for several days now. We are rolling out Exchange to some of our clients, and when you open Outlook it will ask for the email address/password. I found instructions online to configure the Credentials Manager to store the username/password and have set it up for *.server.domain.local. When I do these steps signed in as a user that has admin privileges on their machine, it works perfectly. I also noticed that if an admin user selects the "Save my password" option when typing in the email/password, it will create a new saved credential like it is supposed to.

However, if I set this up the exact same way on a standard user, it does not work. I enter an admin user/pass in order to open the Credentials Manager because the standard user cannot open it. Once open, I enter the same settings as on the other accounts, but opening Outlook still gets the "enter username/password" prompt. If I check the box to save the credentials, it does not make a new entry in the Credentials Manager.

I have checked the registry and made sure that DisableDomainCreds is set to 0 and the LMCompatabilityLevel is set to either 2 or 3 (recommended setting for this). None of this is helping.

I assume that this has something to do with the fact that the standard user cannot open the Credentials Manager, but I am not able to find the setting to allow them to access it. Of course, we do not want to allow each user to be a local admin, that is a bit of a security risk.

Please help!
