If this is any help, I've had very good results with games using Direct3D and horrible results with OpenGL.  MDK2 runs at a massive 1 frame per second and Homeworld...forget it.  I'm open to any and all suggestions about this.  I'm hoping the first service pack will correct this.

I play NHL 2001, NHL 2002 and Everquest on XP with no problems (at least no problems I would say are caused by XP and they are really not problems). NHL 2001 and 2002 have no problems. Everquest lost it's sound and something is up with my mouse, it makes a ding-dong sound while playing and the keyboard freezes for a few seconds. Have only been using XP for a week so these should be solved soon.

hi one of my friends he's playing metal gear 2 on dvd. he seems to have this distorted sound during video clips. a lot like how your tv sounds when you're not tuned to anything. He's using Abit NF7-s mobo with Triplex 128MB GF4 ti4200 vid card and built in nvidia sound. Any suggestions to help this?

How about updated chipset <A HREF="http://www.abit.com.tw/abitweb/webjsp/english/mb_biosdrive.jsp?pPRODUCT_TYPE=MotherBoard&pMODEL_NAME=NF7-S" target="_new">drivers</A> and/or flashing the BIOS to the latest version?  Setting the AGP to 4x might also help.

i'll try the drivers but i'm not so keen on flashing his bios. he'd probably freak out if something unexpcted happened. he's not the type who would sit down quietly and solve the problem.

Deus Ex also works... played it for a little while not long ago...

If this is any help, I've had very good results with games using OpenGL and horrible results with D3D :). I think Windows XP has nothing to do with that, it's just the card and its drivers. On my Radeon 9500 Pro any game with both OpenGL and D3D support worked much better (faster) in OpenGL mode (UT, Tribes 2, Serious Sam 2).

More Information

I have that problem with jedi II and it only happens on the start up. I have tried everything in an attempt to pull it out of there with no luck.
It only started to happen when I bought the Nforce2 board and started using its built in sound card. So, I'am thinking that it's a problem between the program and the hardware and not alot we can do about it til someone puts out a patch specifically for that problem.
