Windows cannot connect to printer Either the printer name was typed incorrectly

Windows cannot connect to printer. Either the printer name was typed incorrectly or specific printer lost connection to the server.

I have a XP Pro work station that use to connect to this printer on a SMB network server. I can nolonger connect to this printer the above is the error message on reinstall. I have purchase software to fix the problem, no luck. I need to connect to this printer and scanner. What is the error message related to. I thought it was my stations spooler. If I connect though a port I add the printer does get the document but it is the code for the frame and the code for the actual window panel not the content in the word document.
