[story]
Ok well so I'm not too much of a noob with software and stuff, but when it comes to hardware...
Well so I'm currently on one of those cheap HP laptops with integrated graphics and I actually want to play NEW games :D . Its my birthday soon, and since our family needs another computer anyway, I *might* just be able to convince my parents to buy my one if I can make it around $1000 or so.
I was originally going to configure one from CyberPower, but decided that its about time to build a PC anyway...

So, I think I'll get my parts from Newegg.
[/story]

[questions]
Alright so the main problem is that I'm afraid I'll get parts that don't "work" with each other. My dad is afraid that I won't have all the parts I need to build a PC...

Heres what I think I want to get so far... Comments, tips, etc welcome.

Thanks in advance!!

1. Don't get that PSU. It is cr@p. Get a Corsair 450VX or even a Thermaltake 500W ($30 after MIR) http://www.newegg.com/Product/Prod [...] 6817153052
or
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Prod [...] 6817341012
OCZ Stealth 500W ($40 after MIR).
(Above PSUs are for single GPU only)

2. Drop the 650i. It's a old chipset. Get a P45-DS3L (no CrossFire) and a 4850. If you want CrossFire get a P45-DS3R. To CrossFire 4850s you need a Corsair 750TX or PC Power & Cooling 750 or better. You will only need to CrossFire only if playing above 1600*1200 on some games (ie Crysis)

3. E8400, WD 500GB,Antec 900, OCZ 2*2GB DDR2 800 are very good choices. Also consider dropping the sound card.

4. For cooling swap the AF7 for the XIGMATEK S1283 (+ bolt in kit)

Ok thanks!
However, if I do want the 8800GT Superclocked Edition (reviews say its pretty darn good), or I want 2 of them, what mobo would you recommend? I mean I'm pretty sure one is enough, but... If I have the money I guess. :D

Change the case to an Antec Sonata III, it comes with come with a good 500w power supply. It will save you some money.

And ya, drop the sound card, the integrated one on the motherboard is good enough if not better.

spend the extra 30 bucks and get the 4850 like the other person said.... it is FAR better than that 8800gt. Also get a different mobo, the same person suggested a couple good ones.

Imo, it's not with it to SLI. There aren't any good and cheap board to SLI on. You need a 780i chipset to do SLI correctly. 750i has problems.

Stick with CrossFire 4850s. Much better performance and cheaper too (when you consider in motherboard cost).

Alright looks like I'm getting the 4850 :D
I'll take a look at the Sonata III, thanks!
Umm so aside from the parts recommendations, if I just buy the above parts, will I be able to assemble the PC?
Like are there any important (or not-so-important) parts, pastes, etc that I missed?
Thanks again!

Sorry double post..
For the 4850, people are saying that is runs hot...
Any fans or stuff that I should get?

You might want to get some thermal paste. Go with ArcticSilver or MX2.

You might also want to get some quiet fans. For quiet fans look in to Scyth.

Since this is your first build I recommend you read up on PC assembling things such as grounding your self, etc. If you want to be really careful of ESD get a anti-static wrist strap ( http://www.newegg.com/Product/Prod [...] 6899261005 ). If you plan to build PCs for friends etc, get your self a good demagnetized tool kit (usually from $10-50 depending on # of pieces, quality etc). I use this one:

You'll be fine. It runs a bit hot. You have a Antec 900 so you should be fine. Just add a PCI exhaust fan if you are concerned.

(Get one in the 30-40 CFM range)

There is ALWAYS a drone.

I mostly agree with Shadow. Point #4 might not matter. The Xigmatek is the better cooler, but the AF7 is also pretty decent. If the system will be moved around a lot, you might want the better mounting of the Xigmatek also, but if it is just going to sit there, either will do nicely.
Point #1 definitely matters. Get a decent PSU. There is an admittedly dated listing at http://www.tomswiki.com/page/Tiere [...] ngs?t=anon that is still not a bad place to start. If a newer model isn't listed, I'd make sure the manufacturer has nothing below tier-3. For example, Antec Earthwatts PSUs aren't listed, but are good; same with the Corsair VX line and some of the OCZs. A single HD4850 only requires a good 500W PSU. If you want two in Crossfire (or two nVidia 8800 in SLI), you'd want 650W-750W. There is a PSU sizing calculator at http://www.extreme.outervision.com [...] rlite.jsp. I'd add another 30% onto what it suggests, so the PSU you get will be operating in a more efficient part of its operating range.

There is ALWAYS a drone. Exactly where, or how many drones you will encounter may vary, but that there will be at least one will not.

So as for assembling, will any guide to building PCs (like the PCWorld thingy) work? Like for the order to put things in.

What size Scythe fans should I get, and how many?

And is Newegg probably the best place to buy this stuff? Is there a better (and cheaper) website? I'm at ~$1100, probably a bit lower with the MIRs, but I wanna know if I can go even lower or not... :D

Thanks for all your help!

Newegg is probably the best place mainly because they have good customer service. Get a few 80mm or if possible 120mm. You probably only need 1 or 2 fans.

Link the guides and we can tell if it's any good.
