Just want to give you all a heads up...

"Newegg has VisionTek Radeon HD 4870 512MB PCI-Express Video Card for $285 - $20 (with code VGA72220) = $265 with free shipping. Thanks SP33DFR34K."

Damn, that's pretty amazing considering the cheapest GTX 260 is $269 after rebate. With this you get not only better performance, but still a better price. I wonder how low ATI can go before cutting into their partners margins?

Nvidia is definitely in trouble, they are pretty much in the spot that the Playstation 3 was in, selling at a loss just so they can get an install base.

Now all we need to see is AMD come out with some really nice stuff on the processor front, and we might actually have a completely competitive market again.

Curious to see what the X2 will go for...

Im putting the X2 down as $450. It would be a death blow to nvidia and thats what ATI needs.

My guess: lower. I think nvidia was banking on cleaning out the market again. Probably expected reviews like "gtx 280 better the 9800gtx2 in one card!!!", and thought everybody would line up to pay top dollar for the obviously bloated price (how else can you explain a 200 and 150 dollar price drop on the 200 series cards?). I think ATI has even more wiggle room too, and they are probably going to try and edge things down just a little farther for themselves. I agree though, if the 4870x2 performs as well as it is expected too, and for under 450, then nvidia will be looking at some serious trouble. As far as I know, nvidia has no back up plan for that. Nothing cooking in the oven like ATI. Could mean drastically lower prices on those cards we are watching drop even now.

Actually, one of the things I'm looking forward to the most is the 4870 OC. GDDR5 @ 4.8GHz. It could also put the hurt on the GTX280.

The Asus HD 4870 is a better deal all around. Standard return policy, not 30 day as with all the others and a three year warranty from Asus. Best of all a better price. $254.99 after rebate free shipping

I'm waiting another week or two until (I hope) those suckers are selling for less than $250 (including rebate)...

:D

GTX260 is going to be chasing the tail of these cards all the way down - it serves them right for doing nothing for 2 years and then coming out with unoptimized bloatware.

Yea I didnt want to risk it. I cant for the life of me figure out why these things would go any lower than $265 (i dont count rebates as part of the price as I dont send them in), so I just went ahead and picked one up. If they drop again then oh well lol it was so inexpensive already it doesnt really bother me.
