i need to get another external HD to store a bunch of videos and stuff on. I dont need it for backup i need it to actually store some movies and anime and stuff. I looked around and asked around and most people seemed to say western digital made decent external HD's. Some people said best bet is to make one myself but i have no desire to do that i just want to go out and buy something

the question is im confused on WD's versions. I thought i wanted their My book essential but theres like 2 versions out there

one they have on their main page here, the WDBAAF0010HBK
WDBAAF0010HBK
http://www.wdc.com/en/products/pro [...] riveid=728

and another i cant seem to find on their main page but i can with a bit of digging
WDH1U10000N
http://support.wdc.com/product/spe [...] 10&lang=en
its also on their outlet page here
http://store.westerndigital.com/st [...] d.33956200

that ones called the essentials 2.0 or something along those lines.

what the hecks the difference between these? i thought the 2nd one was the elements i heard about but it doesn't seem to be the case

they also have the 2 on newegg

WDBAAF0010HBK
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Prod [...] 6822136395
WDH1U10000N
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Prod [...] 6822136186

same price. Can someoe fill me in on the difference between these? is one an older model or something? hell should i just look at the elements?

also, side question. I dont want any auto backup software. If i wanted to get rid of it should i just delete all the files on the HD or do i have to reformat it?

*edit* reading some revies it seems like maybe the WDBAAF0010HBK my book essential has manual backup software you cant remove? is this true?

If all you need is just storage than get the one without the backup software.

I bought a WD EHD 120 gigs about 4 years ago & it has done the job well. Although it's just gone tits up today & I have lost all my photo's movies...etc.
