More Information

Greetings. I have the following setup:

Abit IP35 Pro
Intel E6850
4 GB Patriot ddr2 800

I bought and installed this system exactly a year ago. All has been fine until yesterday. I go to power up the machine and all I get are the fans coming on, then going off, coming on, then going off (repeats at 1-2 second intervals). The LCD on the MB flashes a few things and stops at 9.9. I can't power off the machine unless I turn off the power supply switch. The machine doesn't post that I can tell as the screen is black.

What I've tried so far is replacing the power supply and looking to make sure everything is seated properly. There's been no power surge (T-Storms) that I am aware of although I am plugged into a surge protector. I'm afraid the MB or Processor fried but not really sure.

Looking for suggestions. I can't find anything that shows similar symptoms so I am hopeful that someone here can help.

I have battled the same problem since Saturday when in the process of replacing my E6550 with the E8400. I assumed the power supply was trying to tell me that I had a short somewhere. I ohmed every supply connection to no avail. I replaced my old cpu & still had the problem. I re-installed the E8400 & put the jumper on the pins to clear the CMOS and left it overnight. This morning everything booted fine as if there had never been a problem. Hope you are as lucky.

Had the same problem once...

If you are using 4 sticks of ram, remove at least 2 sticks and it should boot then enter the bios and increase the MCH voltage from 1.25 to 1.29 Volts save and exit

Reseat the 2 sticks of RAM and your board sould boot fine until you clear the CMOS.... if you do you will need to repeat this procedure again.

Good luck
