I looked into my spare parts box and discovered I had everything I needed to build a computer except a motherboard.

I have:
One AMD 64 x2 6000 CPU
One Thermalright 120 Rev A heatsink
Two Scythe S-Flex SFF21F 120mm fans
Four Scythe S-Flex SFF21E 120mm fans
Four 1GB sticks of Crucial BallistiX PC6400 DDR2 800Mhz Ram
8600 GT video card
Plextor optical drive
Two Seagate Barracuda 160GB hard drives
Corsair modular power supply
Card Reader
Lots of cable, drive bay adapters, screws, and odds and ends.

I'm not into gaming. Instead, I do a lot of digital image editing.

Any suggestions for a motherboard?

I went to Fry's Electronics yesterday afternoon and had the opportunity to examine quite a few motherboards that were on display. I also checked articles and user reviews of that Gigabyte 780 board. The user reviews were not very good. I got the impression that Gigabyte has a quality control issue. The board has two heatsinks. The small square one was very loose. The plastic push-pins did not seem to do an adequate job. I doubt the heatsinks made good contact with the chipsets.

Any chance it is supposed to be that way? I saw Abit motherboards with heatsinks that were secured with metal screws instead of push-pins.
