Can anyone suggest to me components for a $ 1000 build?
The only set components are Q9450 and a NZXT Tempest(Unless You think its horrible).
I am not a big gamer so i figure a hd2600xt should do fine, CounterStrike Source on a 24 Inch should be fine on that right?
Any Help is greatly appreciated

That's tight building a Q9450 on 1k (just ordered my parts yesterday for my new q9450 build)

This is $1055 total, you can shave a little off here and there, but this would do you well...you'll need an aftermarket CPU cooler if you ever want to overclock (at least thats what I hear).
One thing you'll definitely need to know, what resolution do you plan on running that 24in monitor at? Make sure your Vid Card will support the res you want...always a concern with large monitors.

Case: Antec 900 - $110
MB: ASUS P5K-E P35 MB - $150
CPU: Q9450 - $340
RAM: G.SKILL 2GB (2 x 1GB) 240-Pin DDR2 800 F2-6400CL5D-2GBNQ - $45
PS: Cosair 520W PS - $120
Vid Card: EVGA 512-P3-N801-AR GeForce 8800 GT 512MB – $170
Hard Drive: Seagate 7200.11 500G SATA - $90
DVD Burner: $30

Shaving about $200 off johnnymac's suggestion;
I think the NZXT Tempest is a good case at a decent price.
If you like
the style and features it's probably worth paying $30 more than the CM
590 case.

Coolermaster Centurion 590 case $70
Antec Earthwatts 430W PSU $30 after rebate
Evga 8800GS 384MB video card $90 after rebate
or Sapphire HD3650 512MB $75 Asus HD3850 $100 (after rebates)

If you're sticking with WinXP 2GB should be fine in the RAM department. If you're using Vista 4GB is what you want.
The 8800GS performance is about half way between HD 2600XT and 8800GT.

Why Q9450 over the Q6600?

What components do you need?

OS? Keyboard? Mouse? Speakers? etc....
That could be $100-$150 difference parts selection.

If its good in theory but not in practice,
its not good theory.

Get either a 3850 512MB or a 8800GS or 9600GT.

AGREED!

Ok this build has the latest motherboard.... Intel P45 chipset so no need for you to flash your bios. That vid card there blows away the ATI 2600 by a long ways. The PSU has plenty of juice for this set up, and the Xigmatek heatsink is a added bonus seeing how that cpu is OEM. Anyways this build will last you for awhile, and it will allow you to play your games with decent FPS. :)

oh and I didn't include shipping charges. :P

Out of curiousity...you want a NZXT Tempest case and a Q9540 quad, yet you say your a light gamer?...LOL...like wtf am I missing here?

Word of advice...the tempest is over priced for what you plan on doing with this rig. It's set up for like 100+ case fans for people running SLI, or heavy overclocking, major hot vid cards, 24-7 gamers, etc... . Same with that quad. You get a little less cache with the Q6600 wich is no big deal unless you want to see how far you can overclock, or if you use adobe photo shop for a living with 20 other applications open at the same time.

The only reason I put that case in the build is becouse you asked for a NZXT. You can do alot better with a Cooler Master or an Antec and for less money.

Things to think about with a case....airflow, room to work with, room to expand, quality, does it fit your needs, and price. I see people on here sometimes screwing themselves out of good hardware for the fact they went overboard on a case or cpu and left themselves short for the other components for the fact their budget didn't allow for a $1,500+ build.

Ok here's the deal. I couldn't fit that q6600 within the $800 price range without sacrificing a part here and there for inferior crap hardware...and what you want in a gaming rig is a "balanced build". Now before you say anything, that E7200 will go head to head wth that quad in most games, and with a simple overclock...and I do mean simple, you can get it even with the E8400. All you do is move up your FSB (Front Side Bus), to 9.5x333 = 3.16GHz. That is the natural overclock for this cpu even though peeps have pushed it to speeds of 3.8-4.0. But you won't do that on a stock heatsink, and it shortens the cpu's lifespan. But with that simple overclock (9.5x333), you won't need to add any voltage, wich means no extra added heat...and your stock heatsink will do just fine for that. Right now dual cores kick but over the quads as far as gaming goes. And if your on a budget they shine even more so becouse you get more bang for your buck ...especially when it comes to gaming. Best of all that cpu won't bottleneck that vid card, and that vid card is the best of the 8800GT's in my opinion. It has the best cooling system of all the 8800's and it's a good deal becouse those cards generally run hot. Not only that, but that vid card is comes factory overclocked and it's a steal at that price. Read up on the reviews of that vid card and also that E7200 cpu. Trust me this rig is a heck of a deal for $800. Nothing on this rig bottlenecks another peice of hardware.
