I recently upgraded to an AMD X2 6000+ CPU. However, when running my 3DMark06 tests, the CPU tests never get higher than 1FPS on the first CPU test, and no higher than 2FPS on the second. Is this normal? I've never used 3DMark before, so I have no idea.

I'm running on a Gigabyte S-Series GA-M57SLI-S4 board with 2x 1Gig 667 Kingston RAM and an Asus 9600GSO 384MB Card. This is the results on a fresh install of Windows XP Home, with the latest nForce and Forceware drivers installed, and the AMD 'Cool & Quiet' option turned off in the BIOS.

On a side note, does anyone know if I'll see a significant difference in performance with or without the AMD 'Cool & Quiet' setting? I've read mixed remarks on this, but noone gives any reasons on their posts. Just 'yes' or 'no' basically.

Not sure if the performance is what it should be, I've never used 3DMark before, but to answer your question about 'Cool & Quiet' it's an automatic AMD protocol or something that lowers the clock speed and voltage of your processor when it's idling or doing simple tasks and not being stressed. So, theoretically, it shouldn't hurt your performance because once you start doing intensive things (like games), the CPU speed should automatically go back to normal.

Yep perfectly normal1 Even with my 6000+@3.3 it hit 3 once on the second test but it was mostly 1 with a 2 here and there!

thanks for the responses. I'm less concerned about my cpu performance and the C&C now. I guess the bottleneck in my machine is elsewhere.

What was your final score for the CPU test?
It is running at a low FPS because all the graphics are being run strictly on the CPU, no GPU being used.

Looking at ORB, an X2 6000+ is scoring around 2300-2200 for a CPU score.

Don't worry about getting 1 fps in the cpu test...every processor gets owned in that test...its setup to be extremely stressful on every cpu... Let us know what your final score was....

Install AMD Dual Core optimizer if you haven't already. You might actually get a bit better performance with some DDR2 800 Ram, Athlons are more sensitive to Ram speed than C2d is. C&Q won't have much effect on most of 3dmark06, only time you really need to disable it are when OCing. CPU score sounds about right for your cpu. Even on a quad core you rarely get above 2fps, if that. Now, when I was experimenting with the IMC on my Phenom 9600be, I was able to pull the CPU FPS to above 2 average, and on the second test could pull 3 or 4fps rarely. But I was also getting CPU scores of near or above 4000, at 2.6-2.7ghz and 2.4ghz on the IMC/L3.
