Alright guys, I need help

My computer was ruined when I shipped it and I have to start from scratch

I have and $800 dollar budget and this is for a casual gamer, resolustion 1280x1024, mabye 1600x1200

I cannot decide on what processor to use

I want to limit the processor to @$90 and about the same for the motherboard, and no overclocking

My last system had a Athlon X2 6400 and lower end Asus

What would give me the best bang for buck

One thing i've considered is a deal on tiger

So, motherboard ideas, processor ideas???

Thanks alot

AMD just released the 5800+ 3ghz at $96 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Prod [...] 6819103274

They also just released the 5400+ BE at 2.8ghz $90 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Prod [...] 6819103289

Either of those would be perfect for your budget. I would personally lean towards the BE, but thats just me.

As for motherboard, I have an MSI K9A2 CFF v.1, this is v.2 at $95 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Prod [...] 6813130172
It is a Xfire board and not SLi.

Older i get the better i was

Do you mean like damaged as in dropped or something like that?
You might have some parts that are still working unless you collected insurance on it and they kept the damaged computer?

If you do need everything new I'd go with what flyin15sec said and get the 5400 BE, but I'm not sure about the motherboard.

+1 on what sportsfanboy suggested. i know it's over waht you wanted for cpu and mobo but still is under 800. well maybe little bit over with shipping. but that setup will allow you to play pretty much any games on highest res. (except crysis) with decent fps.

Well, what happened was the heatsink got knocked off and it threw the processor off as well - When I got home the cpu was behind the harddrives with 1/3 of the pins smashed

And about the cpu, will there be a noticeable differance between a 2.8 and a 3.0???

There wont' be any difference. Because you can change the 5400+ BE's multi to 15 and run at 3.0ghz. That's it, don't have to change anything else.

Ok, thanks much

wow...first of all, I'm really sorry about ur computer...I've always felt a little paranoid about shipping computers (and now that just reinforces that...). I recently bought my x2 6000+, but the only reason why I got it was because it was part of a great combo deal with a 4850 (ended up paying $240 for both of them) so I would suggest looking up combo deals for the processors such as the 5400+ BE, and checking deals on www.slickdeals.net ...

Quick question...are you gonna be using any old parts from previous build????

Never ship a PC with the HSF mounted.

I take out the cpu just because I get paranoid one of the kids might turn it on (before I get the chance to refit the HSF).

I sent one of my boxes via VIRGIN BLUE with the family on a holiday a few years ago and the baggage handlers basically played football with the box - it was in the original packing crate sealed in foam too.

I got home and filled in a claim form but they refused to cover it.

The case (a nice I-Cute one) was so badly bent I was shocked ... I had to bin it.

The HSF (aftermarket heatpipe job) was knocked off and damaged the motherboard components as well as the graphics card.

I have never flown with that company again.

Cheapass ba$tards.

Cost me a case, mob, graphics card ...

/endrant

Try to get a 6000+ ... there is a lower power version available too.

Simple ... no tweaking needed.

E2180? OC easily to 3Ghz and when OCed is a little over a E6600.
I realize you don't want to OC, but with a little learning you can OC it easily (if using a P35-DS3L there is a OCing guide written for it in the Forums)
