if you go with ati get x48 so you have ability to crossfire in future. also intel chipsets are told to be more stable than nvidia (better overclocks)

MY 790i works fine for me, except with the latest NVIDIA drivers...

But yes, if you are going with an ATI card, get the X48 for XF support.
