Ok I have about 1000 dollars to spend on a brand new pc build and I come here so you guys could help me. I know nothing about computers so yeah. I already have a nice LCD monitor and a http://www.newegg.com/Product/Prod [...] 6814150252

Im planning to go SLI and get a good quad core... I WOULD LIKE TO SLI BUT IF THIS BUILD GOES OVER $1000 THEN I DONT NEED TO SLI, No i dont do video encoding or do anything on some sort of line of that. Yes i know the e8400 is better at playing games currently due to the 3.0ghz but i kinda want a quad core because so im future proofing and so maybe games in the future support quad core and it would be better. No dont recommend me the q6600 or another video card like the 8800 gts or something. thanks alot guys i really appreciate it. Also i might OC a little bit but im not sure because i dont know anything about Bios or overclocking. Thanks alot guys i really appreciate it, and also dont go over the budget. Thanks alot

How bigs the monitor??? If its not big then dont bother with SLI
But with another 8800GT u should be fine on budget....

Also, you want a quad but not the Q6600 which is probably the best buy atm?!?!? so what DO u want

its a 19 inch... 1280x1024 is max resolution... never mind i dont need to go SLI. The q6600 is 65 nm, 1066 mhz FSB , and its 2.4 ghz. I was planning to get this quad core http://www.newegg.com/Product/Prod [...] 6819115043

If you intend on overclocking (pretty simple once u read about it) then get the Q6600. Newer is not necessarily better. The Q6600 has a 9x multiplier which is good while the Q9300 is 7.5x. The low multi. extremely hinders OCing performance.

Also with a 19", dont bother with SLI. In CoD4 with the GT i get about 80 fps....so it will be fine

Yea...well the new one starts at 1333 so when u OC u already start to put stress on the mobo....little bit but its still over the 1333 standard.

The Q6600 though is at 1066 so at 1333 its at 3.0....much less stress on the mobo

hmm dam isnt there a mobo where it accepts 1333 and 1600 fsb or something? Would that cause stress still or what

Resident Jerk
More Information

Well its rly no stress either way...just trying to show that the Q9300 overclocked is more stressful on the motherboard than the Q6600 is....

All subjective though (someone here will say get the Q9300...i guarantee it :D)

Hmm true but im thinking the q9300 isnt as stressful as you think because its 45 nm so it causes less heat and its smaller. Could you help me build a $1000 system with the q9300? i already got vid card and monitor as you may already know

Alrite NO SLI for this build then

You can get the q9300 if you want, a mobo maybe a p45 one, P5Q-E, some ddr2 6400 ram. WD 640 GB, DVD-RW Pioneer or LG. The TRUE as the cpu cooler. The Antec P182 as case, the PSU can be the Antec 500, Consair, Thermaltake.

Good Luck on your upcoming build.

Can you recommend a different PSU? IMO i think that psu is overkill especially im not going SLI and its kinda expensive. New york got that gay tax law.
