More Information

So I am going to try building my first own desktop myself. :p
The building will not be the problem but choosing the parts is...
Thats where I need help..

I've been reading/posting a lot on this forum lately and I'm pretty sure about some things
but actually I'm totally noob about computerparts and wich are the best choice...

I'm going to use my desktop for gaming (best settings preferably) and just for downloading some games/videos/music, surfing and a lot of other stuff...
So I want it to be fast and good!
My budget is around 1500$ maybey if it's really worth it I can make some extra 200$ available.
I'm not a cheapo, I'm prepared to pay more money for a good quality and maybey some future-proofness...
I'm planning on using this for like 3 years (will update some things in the meantime...)

Ow yea and I need it to be a bit silent, so you don't notice its on... (no lights in the front, no flashy things in the front...)
just for my parents :p

This are my toughts (I'm totally noob at this, just compared some numbers on newegg trying to find the best buy, but I don't even know what the numbers mean so yea... :p)

CPU:
I'm not sure about this, some say dual core for gaming and some say quad...
some benchmarks say dual still owns, some say quad... need some help choosing :p

Should I take dual (aprox 150$ cheaper), and get a quad in 2 years?
The quads should be a lot cheaper then so now I save 150 and then I can buy a lot better one?

This would be it for dual core:
E8400
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Prod [...] 6819115037
and this for quad core:
Q9450
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Prod [...] 6819115042
Actually, the 9450 is 130$ higher then the 6600!! (0.16 less),
Is it worth the price difference? or can the 6600 overclock to just as high as the 9450 can overclock??
So I'm seriously thinking about 6600 if I go quad...

Motherboard:
ASUS RAMPAGE FORMULA LGA 775 Intel X48 ATX Intel Motherboard
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Prod [...] 6813131284
Dunno, It's compatible with my (quad or dual) processor and has some very good comments??
or this one? http://www.newegg.com/Product/Prod [...] 813128331R

RAM
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Prod [...] 6820231166
or this 40$ cheaper) http://www.newegg.com/Product/Prod [...] 6820231145

HDD
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Prod [...] 6822148288
took the one with the most cache
what is RAID 0?

Video card
people say to wait till new versions come out at the end of the month, I have time enough so I can wait...
I think I am going to take a single videocard but I want to be able to add another one after
(if needed, or when I upgrade my monitor)
MSI RX3870-T2D512E OC Radeon HD 3870 512MB 256-bit GDDR4 PCI Express 2.0 x16 HDCP Ready CrossFire Supported Video Card ??
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Prod [...] 6814127315
Wich one is good?

SLi or Crossfire is not needed because I take 22 inch screen?

Case:
Does it need onboard cooling, or is it better to buy that seperate?
I don't care about the looks if it performs well!!
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Prod [...] 6811119137
this one is ok, but the included fans are a lil loud they say, are there better cases for this price?
(without fans is ok 2, I'll buy them myself)
I want to spend a lil more for a excellent case... wich one?
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Prod [...] ntec%2b900
the antec 900 is very well ventilated, but loud when set on high speed (fans)
I don't like loud, so is there a case without fans (or a case with good, silent fans) without the front lights preferable (I don't want other people to see if the desktop is running or not :p)

PSU
Antec TPQ-850 850W ATX12V / EPS12V Power Supply 100 - 240 V UL, CUL, FCC, TUV, CE, C-tick, CCC, CB
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Prod [...] 6817371009
this one?? I'm planning to overclock a bit...
CORSAIR CMPSU-650TX 650W ATX12V / EPS12V Power Supply 100 - 240 V UL, CE, CB, TUV, FCC, CCC
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Prod [...] &Tpk=650tx ??

OS
I don't have experience with vista, but I thnk I'll stick with Xp for a while because I hear some things don't work on vista and xp is better for gaming...
And what is the difference between 32 and 64bit OS?

monitor:
I'm going to take a 22 inch unless people say to take 24 inch here are some:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Prod [...] 6824236034
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Prod [...] 6824236028
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Prod [...] 6824160020
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Prod [...] 6824009124
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Prod [...] 6824009094
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Prod [...] 0R&bop=And

Cooling
a CPU cooler
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Prod [...] 6835233003
Do I need moe cooling?

Semi-important things
a mouse
a keyborard
a sound-card?
a surround system,
a CD/DVD burner/reader? http://www.newegg.com/Product/Prod [...] 6827151171
...
Any recommodations for that?

Thanks very much!!!
And remember, around 1500$ for everything including monitor!

"When in doubt, blow sh*t up!"

I think you'd be fine with a 20-22in monitor. I wouldn't pay more than $300 for a monitor either.

Like you said, wait for the new graphics cards to come out then come back and see which one has the best price/performance.

SLI/Crossfire is running 2(or more) graphics cards to in some cases double performance. You need an Nvidia motherboard to run sli(2nvidia cards) or an AMD or Intel motherboard to run crossfire(2ATI cards)
motherboard to run crossfire
I perfer Nvidia motherboards because I just like Nvidia better so I would choose this
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Prod [...] VGA%2b780i
But if you are planning on getting an ATI card and going crossfire sometime later than the motherboard you chose should be fine.

I perfer quad core's for their future-profing, you might not see a difference now but in a year they'll have an edge.

The case is really up to you but just make sure it says ATX in the description so you know your motherboard fits in it.
Personally I'd go for an Antec 900 but really it depends on what you like.

One last suggestion, go with this powersupply.

Theres only one teensy problem with that PSU....its not an actual PSU
It has no ATX, cpu or or sata connections....its only meant for Graphics cards....but thats fine if its what u want

I would never ever suggest SLI/Crossfire unless there is a 24"+ monitor involved.....get a good single card and a P35/X38/X48 board

^ Agreed its designed to take the load of the main PSU on multi GPU setups.

Agree with the 900, the Antec 900 for that price is great...

Sound Cards aren't really needed in modern computers, they usually come inbuilt.
Mouse and Keyboard... Depends what you want. Theres usually no performance decrease because of a selection. If you go wireless, get a name brand, they usually ooperate in better frequencies. My personal favourites ATM is Logitech. Sound system, I like 5.1 ch, mostly because I got a $50 system which is pretty good. Personal preferences get in the way here, but you want something with a Sub and decent wattage.

You'll want at least a DVD burner, go with something with a SATA interface. You can even get ones with lightscribe for around $40, go with a LiteOn if possible.

This is a computer me and my younger brother built for him and it was less than 1000.00

You will just need Monitor, Speakers, Optical Drive, Keyboard, Mouse or you can use some of these from your last computer.

I forgot i had a e8400 i gave him and if i was you I would get this or a Q6600 to over clock. if not the quad core you showed would be good.

I just posted a rig for 1500. I'm considering the 2 HDs in Raid 0 that Pcnut suggested, but this may be difficult for you to setup (depending on your tech experience) It doesn't include a monitor, but if you take out the second hard drive, expensive mouse/keyboard you should have the $300.

What is Raid 0??
I'm not sure about taking a 22' or 24' monitor...
I don't even know what inch monitor I have now...
Is 24' big?? to much? 22' plenty?

More Information

Need to do a search on internet for raid to learn about this. I could tell you but better to learn on your own.

As far as monitors go to a electronics store and look at them so you know what you want. they will tell you the size. I have a samsung widescreen 24" LCD that is 1920X1200 resolution and I love it.

More Information

Is there some site that show the size of a 24" so I can compare to my current screen?
what cooling do I have to take? are the other components ok?

More Information

need to go look at in person. go to walmart or somewhere that sells electronics and look in person

More Information

and about the other parts can anyone help me out?
thanks!!

More Information

can anyone help me with cooling, what power suply etc?

More Information

power supply Antec TPQ-850 850W ATX12V / EPS12V Power Supply $150.00
is a good power supply and it is on sale at this price.

as far as cooling get this CPU cooler and you should be ok it runs slow and still dose a good job. so you will not hear it.

Also if you will read where people have posted it has all the information you need as far as parts.. I would also go with the Q6600 if you want a quad core and later you can go to the 9450 of better after prices come down.
