Building a new computer for gaming...
I've researched substantially and arrived on this list.

Some of my concerns are:

1) Whether or not to get the Q6600 for it's better multitasking use?

2) Whether I should go with an XFX motherboard or go for a more well established company?

3) And branching from that whether I should get a computer that supports DDR3 for future proofing... despite what I have heard that DDR3 may not be worth the money and not that great of an improvement

4) I plan on upgrading to SLI with the 8800 GTS cards at some point.


What I plan to use it for is playing some WOW and some of the newer games that come along.
I want to create a high performance, fairly future proof Computer that I can upgrade to SLI with the cards in the next year
Spend less than 2grand

the monitor is good. thats the one I have now. shop by price. pretty much all those monitors in the same catagory have the same LCD pannel
you may want to go a bit bigger if you can afford it.

for school, I'd go micro ATX or smaller. alternativly, you may want to get a laptop. you can get an 8800 in a laptop, and I personaly love the ability to type werever (I'm laying across my bed now) and find myself playing the crappier games on my nongaming laptop because its just more convenient and comfortable than the desktop.

If you're concerned about futureproofing, get a quad core.

I've heard bad things about XFX mobos, they should either step it up or stick to graphics.

xigmata rifle cooler is the latest prefered

I'd go with a 32mb cache HDD, like the 7200.11

I wouldn't get an nVidia board for Intel at the moment.
I wouldn't go SLI/Crossfire unless you're going bigger than 22"

go for an intel mobo, unless you are doing very important school work mirroring isn't worth it IMO
dont get a mbo with ddr2 & ddr3 you wont switch and not change mbo probably
