And Bumps !!! Already read anands, now time for THG. Its a nice GPU and all, cutting edge, but not so cool when faced with is price i guess. it will need to be watered down to gold in this forums.

I agree. I was planning on getting a GTX280 even at that price, but now I am not so sure. For $500 ish I wouldnt think twise, but $650 is another story. Especially since I want to get the EVGA FTW version that is ~10% faster.

the gtx 280 only seems to hold a ground only when with higher resolutions. since i only play with 1680x1050 theres no point in getting it. i only would recommend if u play at very high res and enable all the eye candy (such as aa). and as for the drivers im sure the card will get better but how much can it improve with drivers 10%-15% still doesnt justify the price. i think im gonna get a 9800gx2 there cheap on newegg there like 450$.


the gtx260 for 400$ sounds like a good deal.

If the 4870 can get close or on par to the 260 they're going to have a strong offering, but I'm sure shortly before or after the 280 and the 260 will drop in price.

NV dropped the ball. This is the generation of GPUs where ATI can catch up.

ya they did its kinda sad. but i dont get why they would charge 650$ for this thing it should be more like 500$.
if they lower it to that im sure alot of people would of bought the card. Hopefully ati releases a can of "whoop ass" on nvidia. lol

Well I'll be damned if I buy an nVidia product after all the cheap shots they've been pulling on the market like removing DX 10.1 from AC...
I also don't give a damn about their TWIMTBP campaign and it makes me laugh to see ATi hardware playing those games even better.

Far as i can gather from Toms review , the reason for the high price is partially because of the size of the die , so Nvidia has to make prices higher to recoup the cost of making the cards.Add in retail greed and insane mark ups and you got yourself an expensive card.As for the poor performance , I say wait and see ,let Nvidia tweek the drivers before saying they dropped the ball.

IMO AMD/ATI cards are gonna be cheaper but not as cheap as folks been saying and dreaming about , atleast not on the release date , so be patient wait for the retailers to get there fill and grab em once the drivers mature and prices drop.

Yup. Ive read a few reviews by now.
It doesn't seem too impressive from a Bang/Buck standpoint. Its a too big of a premium for DX10 quality (still not matching DX10.1) and there is a better bang/buck ratio out there. I would hardly shell out 650€/$ for 1 GPU and this one doesn't seem worthy for now. Still too close on the GX2 and on the 9800GTX series.

If the driver matures, it might be good. But Sli'ing this one might as flawed as Sli'ing 9800GX2. Now its time to be watered down by forum users, to pass the real benchmark. Our Benchmark.

But honestly with drivers how much improvement is possible to achieve with just drivers 10-15% MAX??

so far i have this conclusion to myself.

all GTX 280 will outperform any Single GPU available and the reference card OC to around 680/1280 but the AMP edition OC to 715/1300/2800+.

New heat monster(beat the GX2 not sure about Ultra) and money eater. Doesnt OC as high as the older cards due to number of transistor and heat problem.

I will wait for the die-shrink version to be honest. or at least the price come down.

what got me worry is will Nvidia stop updating their driver for the G92 cards and this will make the new G200 looks supremely superior as new drivers gets updated. that just what happen before to 8000 series when 9000 series card was out.

$785 \ £400 here in the uk, $600 would see me buying straight away. Think I will be sitting and waiting to see what ATI's offerings bring to the market. Ive got until the end of july to make up my mind, hoping for a bit of a top end price drop before too long.

Im definetely looking more for single gpu performance than sli \ crossfire due to my regular games not working with sli \ crossfire.

The GT260 doesnt seem enough upgrade from my 8800gtx to be worth paying £260 for. If I go nvidia for the new card it will be the gtx280, but not at launch sadly.

Probably for the best Ive just restarted playing a 5 year old game that will keep me busy for a month or two.

I suspect anyone with a 8800GTX sli rig might well be sitting back for a while longer yet.

It is the manufacturing process. Their yields per wafer are low so the production costs are high. But yeah...the pricing doesn't make sense since the GX2 is less and performs better in most tests.

Hopefully AMD will take this opportunity to invest in its graphics division this year and make it back out of the hole.
