yea not bad.
firstly a trival point but the q6600 is not a pentium calss processor, the pentium is now used to describe the value line.

secondly i would get the 790i unless you really intend to use Sli i would go with a x38 or something.

also i would get a 9800gx2, i would go and get the GTX260.

yeh that spec sounds good. why dont u get premium 64bit vista instead of 32bit ulitmate. 64bit allows you to have more than 3GB ram total, that includes the memory for graphic cards and its just as good as ultimate.

and why not wait to see how the ati 4870 and 4870X2 do, from the sound of things they are doin very well and offer amazing preformace for the price

I would get an intel chipset over nvidia and get 4800 series cards like a 4870, and maybe a e8400 instead depending on what you use the machine for.

ddr3 isnt really needed and you wont see a real difference for the extra money.

I've got a 790i Ultra, but it's an EVGA...I'd recommend that one over the XFX...just from reading about issues people have had with the XFX. Take a look at my configuration in my sig.....OC'ing an E8400 is a breeze....if you have 1600Mhz RAM just link and sync and bam you're at 3.6Ghz...easy.

Edit....you need a 750 watt PSU at the most....but the 1000 watt does leave room for who knows what.

Get a P45 motherboard like the ASUS P5Q Pro.

Get DDR2 instead of DDR3.

Get a pair of Radeon HD4850s or HD4870s.

Get this power supply.

Get 64 bit Vista.

Game on

I'd say your original build is fine. Though there's some good recomendations above (such as Intel chipset instead of nVidia (790i). I've got a 680i and it isn't very good for OC'ing quads. Not sure about the 790i boards.

Anyhow, I'll second the motion for Vista 64bit. Vista 32bit won't let you use more than 3GB of your memory. Not a total waste having that "4GB" but it won't all get used. 64bit will allow you to use all 64bit.

And with Vista for gaming, you'll want 4GB of ram. I'm running 2GB now, and even WoW uses 70-80% of my 2GB DDR2. I've got more memory being shipped my way right now.

Video cards. Look at some good benchmarks and reviews on the ATI 4850 & 4870's. It's sounding like they may be a better bang for your buck than the 9 series GeForce cards. But you'll have to decide that on your own.

If you can afford an Intel Quad extreme get a QX9775 3.2Ghz...I mean it's probably not needed ...but if you got the money, and you want to spend it.....I'm really happy with the E8400 though.

Thanx, but im into oc systems yet, dont think its needed, i had a build of the same type as above, but with a evga motherboard 790i ultra and windows ulti 64 bit, i had blue screen errors......didnt know wat was faulty..i think it was the mother board or the drivers,or the heat!......do blue screens come from heat issues???
so im gonna try using other brands same config, to see if that fixes the problem
Also i have 32bit on this current system im using also loaded 4gb of ram......theres a patch of some sought to enable the 4gb on 32bit!
.......oh yes the system was hot....it had core temp of 50c, and everything was around 40c but the system cloked in at 84c! didnt know wat to do!!!
