2 CD ROMs
1 3.5" floppy
80GB Western Digital HDD
32MB ATI AGP video card
This PC had been sitting for a couple of years. When I decided I needed to use it, I tried to boot it up. The POST would detect my HDDs, CDROMS, but I'd get the message Floppy Failed (40). I had a 17GB HDD as the secondary master.
Last time I used it, it booted up fine. To make a long story shorter, I ended up re-partitioning the 80GB HDD by reinstalling Windows XP Home. Downloaded the updates, PC worked fine, except FDD still failed.
To fix that, I installed a Sony 3.5 fdd, and I removed the 17 GB HDD so I only had one drive on the primary IDE.
After removing the 17GB HDD and replacing the FDD, I rebooted. Back to the same problem- BIOS saw my drives, but it took a long time between detecting drives and going to the next screen, which was a cursor in the upper left corner of the screen. Then, eventually it came back with floppy drive error (40), hit F1 to continue. I hit F1, then it came back with the NVIDIA PXE boot assist or whatever it is, then ultimately came back with the message about operating system not found and to insert a system disk and hit enter.
This is the same message I got previously whe I had to repartition the drive, format it and install XP again.
I have tried:
Resetting the BIOS by jumper
Removing the CMOS battery (overnight)
Reflash the BIOS from AN35S00Q to AN35S00R (message falsh successful)
After removing the CMOS battery, replacing it, when I start the PC up, I get the message about updating CMOS- Update successful, but it goes right back to the same ultimate message about inserting a system disk.
