I know versions have been asked hundreds of times (I have read them and am now more confused then before)

I am trying to figure out what chipset/motherboard to go with for my first build. The comp is used mainly for gaming and porn (hey, least I'm honest :ange: )

I have already picked out the E8500, 8800gt, 680 psu, vista premium 64bit and plan on running 4g ram once i figure out which mother board. I am not going to OC (not smart enough for that) and am not going to run dual graphics cards (too poor for that).

I just want a chip set/motherboard that will run everything properly without interference problems from the 8800gt's size. P35/P45/x38/x48/750i/780i..I'm so confused.. I'm not a tweaker and am not looking to win any competitions I just want it to work right, be reliable and not bottleneck the system.

Please post some of your reccommendations as I am truly lost at this point.

Thanks in advance.

Edit: I have been looking at this card as it is in my price range. What cha think?

There ya go old timer, reason i picked this board for you:
1. Cant overclock even if you wanted to.
2. Reliable
3. Cheap (cheapest 4 ram slotted motherboard)
4. 4 ram slots for future upgrades

Since you don't want to overclock no need in buying a more expensive board, want something reliable, well this has to be it, built 2 computers with these mobo's and are running just fine in the Philippines (i say this because they are running in 95F degree rooms with TONS of humidity).

Any way enjoy.

If you have no plan to sli or cf, then go with p35 chipset. I recommend you gigabytes p35 ds3l because it is cheap. It will give you a decent oc with your cpu if you want to oc later on. But, if you want higher oc, i would recommend p45 chipset motherboard.

chaosgs, now thats a completely different chipset all together?? bah!!!!

I just looked at the mobo you were wanting.......LOL

Dont need that, the ECS board has 2 PCI Express slots as well (if you need them which you stated that you don't), it basically has everything the asus board has, but cheaper.

hmm...but are all the "cool" kids gonna laugh at me

May be a different brand and all, but 100% compatible with what you want, BUT is cheaper than you were looking for, has 2 extra ram slots unlike the p35 suggested above. The biggest thing is there is no down side to the board i suggested.

costs a little more than what i suggested for the same performance (and 1 less PCI Express slot).

Ok, lets pretend that the nurses here at the old folks home would allow me to stay up past the 8pm curfew and read up on Ocing a wee bit. Maybe step me up a level or two in boards and toss me your reccommendation. I feel like I'm not "really" skimping that much on the rest of the system so lets pretend I'll figure this out before I die.

I think I would like to go no lower then a p35. For buildability and what nots.
