I heard that EDIMAX EW-7128G IEEE 802.11b/g PCI Wireless Card

>>> http://www.newegg.com/Product/Prod [...] t;<<

does NOT work well if you want do some online gaming (like cod4) with your build having vista 64 bit and more than 2 gigs ram

is this true?

I bought Edimax because it was cheap, it sucked period.
I now buy Linksys.

Stick with trusted products. Also wireless gaming is a little slower then wired gaming.

If you use wireless internet and wireless keyboard/mouse, expect to get owned a few extra times.

I had the same problem with linksys pci cards. Look for one that is vista certified or xp 64 certified. I got a cheap MSI off newegg. Works like a charm.

All those $20-$30 wireless NICs are piss poor because you won't get any latency lag but there WILL be game stuttering. I think I saw this in COD4 on wireless and also UT3 it will vary from game to game I say.

Even when I used a decent wireless card (Netgear G) , and it operated at full speed, games would periodically lag out, thus making it impossible to play any first person shooter without major problems. Every 5-30 seconds the game would reload the gui and so would cause me to die often.
Even if you use a really long regular network cable it will still be faster than wireless and as it's like 3 quid for 10m of cat 6 it's not unreasonable to use wires.

solution: buying 100 foot network cable for 10$. its barely long enough tho =/

Other options, install a separate phone port in the room you want to connect or buy one of those wired kits that use the mains to transfer data.

I have that card, works great for me, never any issues. Usually has better signal than other people's internet.

As long as you're not on cable you should just be able to plug the router or modem into that phone port instead of the one it's currently in.

^You can use 2 different modems but since the MAC addresses are different you will have to pay for two separate connections.

^Agree, was getting ready to suggest that, saw this reply. I have that same wireless card but I don't game on-line, just Internet access in the basement and it works great.
