Hello,
this is my first post on these forums, be kind :) I hope my questions isnt a duplicate of thousends before me - at least I wasnt able to find the answer using the search engine.

The Issue
I recently bought a new processor, a AMD Athlon 64-bit dual Core(you can find my exact info in the dxdiag quote further down on page), upgrading from a Athlon 64-bit single core. Running on Vista 64-bit Ultimate together with a ATI Radeon 3850 AGP graphic card on a MSI Ultra3 motherboard, yes, this is the 939 socket version. Everything was running just fine before i installed my new processor. I took out the processor and installed the new one. Booted the system and it seemed to work out - until the ATI Radeon Display Drivers(latest version; 8.5) launched/booted and the system froze. I rebooted in safe mode and nothing was wrong. Re-installed Windows Vista Ultimate and everything, again, seemed to work fine untill i installed the CCC[Catalyst Control Center 8.5 suite] and rebooted the system and it froze again after hitting desktop.
I've uninstalled the display drivers in safe mode, booted the system and uninstalled all the Catalyst software, installed the default windwos VGA drivers while i'm trying to find a solution to this problem.

So to sum up: My windows vista 64-bit freezes when I use the ATI radeon drivers for my graphic card after upgrading my cpu to a Athlon dual core.

I am no expert in this matter but have you checked your MB support site to see if the version of the BIOS in use supports the new CPU you just put in. That's the first thing I would check.

As you can see from the website it should support my CPU: http://global.msi.com.tw/index.php [...] _no=6#menu with the latest BIOS versions. Earlier versions of that BIOS did not have the x2 support.

Hello, I'm still getting these errors. I've now downgraded to windows XP pro SP3 and its running fine, except that my computer locks up once I start a game. I find it really hard to find a solution to these problems. I get a event 11 when i Crash in xp
