More Information

I've scanned thru the forums both here and other places... my problem..

1) I use Remote Admin at home to connect to my work pc at work.
2) I VPN into our system at work, then RADMIN to connect from my home PC to my work PC.
3) I've always used big old (heavy) 21" monitors both at home and at work so they match. Both set to 1280 x 1024
4) Then, my home 21 " monitor died.
5) I bought a new LCD 22" Samsung (native resolution = 1680 x 1050)
6) I set my home PC to 1680 x 1050 and it looks sharp and good on the LOCAL PC.
7) But, since my work PC still has the 21" TUBE monitor attached, it won't go to the exact resolution I need to make it look good at home over VPN / RADMIN... I've tried all resolutions, and nothing works so that the little white "ghost" doesn't show up to the right of every vertical line (and character).

Question: How can I fool my work PC into thinking that it ALSO has a 1680 x 1050 monitor attached so that it outputs the resolution I need to make it play nice with my home monitor? I've downloaded new Intel graphics drivers, etc. but since it still has the old tube attached, it evidently doesn't think it should offer a widescreen option. There ARE times I'll need to go in to work, so will still need the office tube monitor to work, but I can deal with changing it back to 1280x1024 when I do that... right now, I'm just going blind trying to watch the LCD display 1280x1024 on a native 1680x1050 LCD. I don't want to buy a 2nd LCD monitor just to make this work. Is there any hardware that makes the work PC "think" it's outputting to a 1680x1050 LCD. I don't care that the work Monitor is not even on when I'm working from home.

Have I confused everyone yet?

Steve Henderson

something you probably need to change in radmin. I dont use the software so im not sure but with most other remote admin software you specify the resolution you want it to connect at either before connecting or while connected. it shouldnt matter what monitor is hooked up at all.
