I have been thinking about technology and the future of technology. I am going to share my ideas of what i think is easy to do somewhat cheap would would flat out cool.

1. For along time people have always been joking around that your house would be run bye Windows (yes the operating system), Well i suspect you can with windows 7 (i think its code named Black arrow?). I heard some where that they are working on voice commands and bill gates did mention the future will be voice command or something like that. So i personally been thinking about making a mid range desktop put in the living room that would have a range of features such as.

1A. If your paranoid about security and you need to watch that "suspicious" neighbor or babysitter you can have webcams wired or wireless and kept recorded for you on the desktop.

1B. This would take a good program and some wiring but, Highly adjustable temperature settings for your house and can be changed by a command in any room with a microphone in each room. Yes they have that in a way, but this way would be easier and faster to use as well as a few other options.

1C. Would be the only dvd, HD DVD, Bluray player in the house you would need. Hooked up to all T.V's in the house so you can play a different movie on any TV and can even spy on what your kids watch.

1D. From Wireless Ear buds to huge sub woofers to play your music, only a command away to change your music. JUST AN ADD ON! yeah mp3's and Ipod's but i personally would rather have 2 little wireless ear buds lying on my bed listening to music without worrying about falling asleep and rolling over and breaking my ipod.

1E. Plans, memos, messages will be displayed on any TV in the house at what ever time you would like.
In Example, "Im going to get home late and i need you to do ******* around *:** O clock".

What I think is gonna make something like this sold would be 1A 1B 1C. I have 2 other pretty good ideas about this but i forgot them.

Before you bash this, i remember a lot of idiots buying slied 8800 ultra's at $700 each. This whole setup would cost about $2000 average (no installation).

I been thinking about starting a company I wont say the name but the slogan would be " Innovation Today, In Your Home Tomorrow". Would be based on taking Technology to another level.

Another idea would be Wi-Fi key and locks. IE when you walk up to your car and/or house the door unlocks via an Wi-Fi Key to your Wi-Fi lock. I have all the details worked out.

I basically wrote this out of boredom but i really do think about doing the desktop thing for me and friends/family. Technology seems to be hitting a slow down point but in reality there is so much more that can be done.

damn, i had this idea for 2 years. My age blows, i have literally had cool ideas long before they were mentioned and even the details worked out. But my age and lack of college education prevents me from being able to do something cool. Back in 1995 when i was 6 years old my dad bought a cell phone, i knew they would catch on, and i came up with a cool idea of using a song for ring which is now called ringtones. Really pisses me off. I even thought of an MP3 when i got a CD player when i was like 7 or 8. I ripped my cd's onto my windows 95 and 98 computers. Than thought why cant you store such data on Ram or a small Hard Drive thus holding a few more songs on a smaller player.

Oh well.

I think Bill Gates was rumored to have some of this stuff years ago. (I'm pretty sure lights and temp were voice controlled, according to rumor.) I agree with B-Unit, I think a bunch of this is doable already.

yes your house can be run by a network.

I saw this on discovery, some company in australia.
Your house is connected to a pc and that pc is connected to a server in a company.

you can turn on your coffee maker and open the blinds of your window via a remote control in your car. This thing has been thought through its possible.

1a Done, my dad set one of these up himself with a boxed solution. NEXT

1b Most homes have central hvac so most homes would have to upgrade not only wiring but also ducting and almost certainly the AC unit itself. My parents have some Trane model AC and it cost about 9 grand when they built the house, and that doesn't include ducting. A central HVAC is a fine solution for most homes anyway, and they make zwave thermostats.

1c This would be too inconvenient. I wouldn't want to walk to the living room so that I could watch a dvd in my room, especially if my room was across the house on the second floor. A better solution would be software that automatically rips the dvd to iso, then a client side interface allowing the person to mount the iso onto a virtual drive either in the server or set top box. Or just have a dvd player built in to the set top box. Blu ray won't stay on its price pedestal for that much longer, so integrating it into the set top box won't be that expensive. Besides, HDCP complicates the wireless streaming of Blu ray content.

1d Bluetooth? each set top box has a bluetooth radio, there you go.

1e Local IM server with each set top box hosting a client. A calendar program with access to the IM server could send mass IMs to each client (as well as cell phones and email) when a scheduled event is coming up

My parents house already has a small server hosting media, the security cams, and it has a dual tuner card so that they can record tv shows and watch them later, although only on computers or the living room tv (it's connected by a mpc to the server)

I think a small space heater with videocard functionality would be cool. Oh what, ATi already invented that. It's called the 2900xt.

Your idea is sound ... and from good principles in terms of environmental sustainability.

Glad to see people are throwing ideas out there.
