I'm looking to buy a new monitor. I'm planning on spending about $300. It'll be used for word-processing and gaming.

I've got an ASUS EAH-3870 video card.

There are so many monitors out there and I don't want to make a mistake. I know this is one of those, "Well, you gotta look at it" very subjective type of request, but any recomendation would be appreciated.

What's better, Samsung or Viewsonic? Any other manufacturer I should look at?

Any suggestions would be most welcome.

GinoS both samsung and viewsonic make great monitors,you really can't go wrong with either one,have used both of them in the past and they have always worked great,went with acer 22" model 2216wb this time because of price and what I have read on it.and it was a great choice again.just go with 22" wide screen you want regret it.hope this helps you.

I have always liked Samsung for LCD's They are a little more expensive but well worth it.

VIEWSONIC!!!! that's a naughty word don't ever say that again. I have had some bad experiences with them. I got a monitor a while back with a mess of stuck pixels and was enough to return it, they sent me a replacement that had 3 stuck pixels, but because it was within their 10 bad pixel limit I could't return it. So I basically lied to their support and they sent me a replacement which was EVEN WORSE. SO I sent that one back and stuck with the one with 3 stuck pixels because they were in a better locations. Although a nice red dot was always on my FPS games in the area of the enemy radar, so I always thought there was someone where.

Anyways. My buddy swears by ACER monitors. They are cheaper and he had a 24" that was freaking beautiful, but sold it to get a 25.5" cause he is wierd like that. And it to was insane looking. It was also VERY light in weight compared to even my 22" that isn't even a year old.

I always recommend a 22" widescreen it seems to be at a good price point.
