I have an unknown brand 450w power supply and an E2160.
My ram is running at 667mhz and I have an ASRock 4CoreDual-SATA2. My problem is that I can get it up to 2.4ghz tops and it's completely unstable. I can keep it running at 2.0 for a while, but it still reboots itself after awhile. Is my psu causing this nonsense?

Everything I have in my pc
- 1 dvd-rw combo drive
BFG 9600gt
E2160
1 uv cold cathode
1 blue cold cathode
1 80gig WD HDD
2 80mm fans
1 120mm fan
1 creative sound blaster sound card
1 10/100/1000 gigabit ethernet card
ASRock 4CoreDual-SATA2 motherboard

Should I get a better PSU for more stable overclocking? or is my motherboard the issue? Thanks for helping, suggestions are appreciated

It is without a shadow of a doubt that mobo. It is based very similar to my old (EVIL) mobo which doesn't get past 285FSB. I know that won't be whats limiting you atm, but i can almost say i'm 100% sure it'll be mobo related.

Get yourself the Gigabyte GA-P35-DS3L an you could get it to 3.4ghz with good enough cooling, but your RAM will limit you to only 3ghz.

Also just replace the PSU just to be safe. Newegg has good price on the Corsair 550VX.

May as well put in another vote for a new mobo and PSU. As cheap as ram is right now, might as well buy some good ram at the same time, though that's not the most necessary thing.

Id have to go with the Mobo, the ASRock 4CoreDual-SATA2's are a combo board which will have issues at higher FSB. I believe the PSU will be fine though... e2160's are not big power draws nor is the 9600gt and you dont have a whole lot of over devices.

Mobo only
