hi guys,
 
i dont have a tv screen as i watch tv on my computer. i was wanting to buy a ps3 and wondering how easy it is to hook it up to my 22 inch computer widescreen?  
 
-> do i need to pay extra for an adapter?  
-> can i plug the ps3 into my gfx, straight into screen or do i need to do it through my tv card? (i dont think my tv card is very good)
 
my girl friend also wants to bring her ps2 with her when she moves in. can she plug that into my screen? it would be kewl to play on that until the metal gear solid ps3 bundle comes out in my country.

Well there is a resolution issue....since the monitor is 1680x1050 and PS3 sends out 1920 x 1200 ... I don't have any monitors less than 1920 x 1200 so can't tell you what the effect is:

Actually, the PS3 outputs a maximum resolution of 1080p, or 1920x1080 which has a 16:9 aspect ratio, vs. 1920x1200 which is a 16:10 aspect ratio.
 
DC_legacy, I'd suggest looking at a 24" or larger monitor with a native resolution of 1920x1200, as it'll have greater support for game consoles, if your budget permits. After using 1920x1200, I wouldn't want to go back down to 1680x1050.

Any idea how the sound works?  
HDMI -> DVI will lose the sound output.  I'm asking this cause my tv only has DVI and not HDMI and I'm trying to figure out what cable box to get... but haven't gotten very far and thought i'd bring up the question.  I'll probably have to go with component VGA cables for my situation

was doing some snooping around on the net and came across this you tube clip . . .

look as if i can just play the game on my screen and will suffer a small bit of cropping at 1080p. it was also suggested that i can just drop the res down to 720p. does every game have the option to drop down to the 720 res?
 
also bc brought up a good point with the sound. can i hook up the ps3 to my 7.1 sourround sound on my asus p5k-se?

 
You are right of course....I like the 1920 x 1080 resolution even in windows games because it gives me access to the toolbar in Windows and allows me to switch windows.
 

 
That part I don't get though.....I see no correlation between size and support.....as long as you can display 1920, size is irrelevant.
