The cpu might bottleneck your 3dmark06 score, but for gaming it should not be a problem.

cool cool

another question. would it be worth it to spend 99 on a black edition 5000x2 and aftermarket cooler and overclock it?

i have a m2n32 sli deluxe, but my case has kinda bad airflow.

thanks.

I don't think it'd be worth it if you already have a 4800+ b/c you probably can still get a respectable OC out of the 4800+, so you might gain a little speed, but you gotta decide if it's worth 100 bucks.

From what I understand AMD is having an across the board price break on April 7th. If you go to the black edition get it then.

Also from what I understand as long as you do not increase the voltages there should be no increase in heat with the black edition. Per this article you can get an overclock of up to 3.1 GHz with out increasing the voltages.

However poor airflow is never a good thing. I would work on that first.
You may want to try something like this to increase your airflow if you have THREE 5.25 Bays empty.

It is a good device but it did not work with my cooler master case because of the tooless drive bay design. But if you don't have that this would be a great item to pick up.

There was an article on Nordichardware.com that mentioned it. It linked to a german website. I used Microsoft word to translate it from German to English.

AMD with new price round in April AMD informed its Resellers about the fact that starting from April 7th they will discount for numerous Desktop processors. In the price to be lowered are the AMD Phenom 9500 and 9600, as well as the Phenom 9600 Black edition. Same is planned for the model row of the AMD Athlon 64 X2. Affected by the price reduction here the models are 4400+, 4600+, 4800+, 5000+, 5000+ Black edition, 5200+, 5400+, 5600+, 6000+ and 6400+. Lower prices are also for some “Energy Efficient” processors with a TDP of 45 Watts. The Athlon 64 LE-1600, LE-1620 and LE-1640, as well as with the Sempron the models LE-1200, becomes more favorable LE-1250 and LE-1300.

awsome thanks

More Information

Intel is having their price cut across the board on April 20th. April 7th will allow AMD 2 weeks time to beat them too it.

You do know that the 90nm 64x2 6000 and 6400 processors will be discontinued 2 Quarter 2008? That is just because AMD is making the switch to 65nm across the board and they can't keep a factory open just to make 6000 and 6400 chips alone at 90nm. However if you are worried about heat you should not have any interest in the 6000/6400 125Watt chips anyway.
