Because people are foolish enough to buy it. Get the Q6600 with a P35 mobo and you get a free OC to 3G i.e., no increase in voltage. |

higher multiplier. overclocking ability has more options. thats all. --------------- Don't Assume, Google it. |

The Q6700 is 10% faster and does that without overclocking. This means you get the additional speed and still keep the warranties and don't need to know how to overclock. It's good for less technical people or for corporations who want to minimize IT headaches. For example where I work they bought me a new machine with a Q6700 last year. |

The Q6700 is the exact same hardware as G0 stepping Q6600, just running at higher clock. You can think of this as factory overclocking, which is identical to do-it-yourself overclocking. --------------- Q6600@3.6ghz, GA-EX38-DS4 X38 chipset motherboard, 8gb 800mhz ddr2 4-3-3-12, 8800GTS(g92)@780mhz, 1TB 7200rpm 32mb cache hdd, 850watt 12v rails=4x20amp powersupply |

because Intel has never been shy about the fact that they will ass-rape anybody they can whenever they can (just like the Pentium 4 Extreme Edition for over $1000), but for some reason people still buy their stuff. |

If the price goes down & its only $30-$50 more then that would make since. |

In this situation it is not the same as "do it yourself overclocking with a warranty". The q6700 has a speed of 10 x 266mhz = 2.66 ghz, while the multiplier on the q6600 is 9 (9 x 266 = 2.4 ghz). One cannot raise the multiplier on a non extreme edition, so one cannot get a multiplier higher than 9 on a q6600. All this means is the q6700 has more overclocking options to play with than the q6600, not worth the extra money with the q9450 out. --------------- "Quad cores are only good for burning CD's" Q6600 @ 3.3 | Xigmatek HDT-S1283 | 8800gts G92 512mb (756/1890/1044) | GA-P35-DS3L |

You don't need to change the multiplier to OC the Q6600 as far as it will go. 3G at 1333 and 3.6 @1600. That only requires DDR2 800. If you want to go all out then 4.5G @ 2000 which requires DDR2 1066. I don't think anyone is running 4.5G so why do you need to change the multiplier? Right, you don't and the whole pay more than double for 266Mhz to get a higher multiplier is BS.

Zorg is correct it comes down to people with more money than brains dropping the cash for a marginal increase in performance. |

Great, but an additional 266Mhz isn't even really noticeable and the Q6700 is far from bleeding edge.

In THG's system builder marathon, the q6700 did not overclock more than 3.7Ghz... and that was on liquid cooling!! Even they came to the conclusion that the trusty q6600 can overclock to same speeds... Hell I had mine running on 3.6 on air!!! (the same speed, they finally settled on for the q6700).. The extra multiplier does squat! |

Pricing schematics are the loopholes that makes the company that extra add on money they wouldnt have gotten otherwise. You would be surprised how many people out there with deep deep deep pockets and little sense to recognize the marginal difference. Their salesman says this is the faster chip and they buy it.

Good thing I only paid $240 for my Q6700, a DG33TL (I'm not using), and Vista Home Premium (which I sold for $100). After I sell the motherboard for $60, I'll have paid $80 for my Q6700.
