According to [H]ard OCP, Nvidia is planning to release four new 9xxx graphic cards during the first half of 2008.

Around February/March 2008, GeForce 9800 GX2 will be released. This card is meant to replace Nvidia's current top performer, the GeForce 8800 ultra, as it would be "at least 30% faster".
GeForce 9800 GX2 can be easily described as two 8800 GPUs with 65 nm die and connected together through an internal SLI link.

During the same February/March 2008 timeframe, Nvidia will also release GeForce 9800 GTX which is meant to replace GeForce 8800 GTX. Little is known about this card, but we know that it will support triple SLI.

About a month later, Nvidia will release GeForce 9800 GT but we know nothing about this card yet.

Later during 2008, GeForce 9600 GT will be released. This card should fall below GeForce 8800 GT, but outperform GeForce 8600 GTS. It should retail for $169.

All 9xxx are based on Nvidia's current 8xxx offerings. The 9xxx naming only suggests the die shrinkage to 65nm.

Wait... doesn't 9xxx also support DX10.1/SM4.1 as opposed to DX10/SM4.0 supported by the 8xxx series?

I was expecting a lot more from the 9XXX series of cards from Nvidia. I was expecting them to take another quantum leap forward like they did in November 2006 with the introduction of the 8800GTX.

It seems like the only thing they are going to be offering is the same old stuff but just on a more energy efficient 65nm platform. Basically nothing that isn't already available today. It is just going to be variants of the G92 chip just slapped with a new name.

I would say this is not news for Nvidia heading in to the midpoint of the year. You have ATI working on their new cards based on a totally new R700 architecture which we all know will be at least 55nm chips. It will be interesting to see if the R700 will close the performance gap with the G92s or even surpass them.

To answer the other guy's question Nvidia has no plans for DX10.1 support as there are no DX10.1 games available right now to take advantage of. They are more focused research and development of DX11 applications for 2009.
