More Information

It's Not looking very good for Intel here....AMD based server consumes 41 percent less power (shocking).

Recent tests by Neal Nelson, an independent computer performance expert, show that while some Quad-Core Intel Xeon based servers delivered up to 14 percent higher throughput, similarly configured Quad-Core AMD Opteron based servers consumed up to 41 percent less power. The test servers used 1 gigabyte memory modules at 4, 8 and 16 gigabyte main memory sizes

Intel servers are costly to run! AMD is leading the way! AMD4Life!

Honestly the conclusion should have been:

FBDIMMs use more power than DDRII800

Which... is something we have all known for a long time.

welcome back Thunderman, we missed you!!!

Horrah!

I love the way you write (shocking) after your fanboy statements. Infact maybe we can formulise your posts.

Shock, horror

Read the news on Phenom and the other one the AMD 64x2

and then realise how good the per core Phenom is

Now go and eat that bread and milk and go about your day job serving burgers and milk shakes

not to mention the KEY word in the conclusion was "up to" 41% less power. In most of the tests that was not the case.

Ill keep it simple...

AMD Sucks, right now.

they Win the electricity battle...thats all. Way to go AMD. I can create a 10mhz processor that usses less power. After all why would i want to win the performance race ? power consumtion is everything ! LOL

I hate those 2 words..... "up to" is probably the most used phrase by all advertising companies
"up to 100% less dandruff" the fact that your hair will look like alaska means nothing, it CAN reduce it once every now and again, after a strange and necromantic ritual

The person who created these tests admits his results and conclusions do not match those for the industry recognized SPEC tests for power usage.

To the person who claimed that site was not reputable, here's just some of the other sites also covering this same shocking story after a quick Google search.
AMD servers are more efficient than Intel servers period...I have provided the proof.

People quote you. Does that make your posts reputable?

More Information

No, you provided proof that FBDIMMS, use less power than DDRII. Thats all.

Quote from the source:
"By themselves the Intel (NASDAQ: INTC) processor chips may use less power... These FB-memory modules appear to consume more power than the DDR-II memory modules used by the AMD (NYSE: AMD) based servers. The result is that in many cases an Opteron based server actually uses less total power than a Xeon based server." observed Neal Nelson, designer of the test"

And yet, the Intel systems still do more work.

Just was questioning that myself. The INQ (get real) and AMD zone? One's hardly reputable and the other you can't trust for unbiased information. You decide which is which.

And just because I have to aks: Who the f*ck is Neal Nelson? Yes I know it says "an independent", but why should I give a damn?

http://blogs.zdnet.com/Ou/?p=956 we see here another opinion about the neal nelson test.

Can somebody check on the prices of actual xeon processors and compare them to those in the neal nelson test?
Maybe the fact that the intel and AMD systems tested are similarly priced, then it's got a point, and AMD is more power efficient -on that price tag-. But if actual intel xeons cost the same as the old ones, why would I buy the older xeons?

First,

each of those sites did not perform their own tests. They mearly regurgitated the same results as gathered by

Quote :

....Recent tests by Neal Nelson, an independent computer performance expert.....

INever heard of Neal Nelson either.

Second,
you backed an alleged 'unreputable' site (I cannot say one way or the other, I have never heard of this 'PR-Inside' site) with The Inquirer, a known unreputable site and AMDzone.

9 inch......never use The Inq or AMDzone to corroborate you claims.....thats like saying 'Hilter is right because Himmler and Mengele say he is'

With every passing post you slide further towards your old habits......stop it.
