Hi everyone,
First off, happy New Year to all and wish everybody and their families a healthy NewYear.
Now, I am planning to build a new computer for editing photo and video. No game.
I plan to use window xp pro for now and may be upgrade to vista later.
I would like to keep this computer as long as possible. So if you guys and gals can look at my spec to see
if anything I need to change. Remember, I use photoshop CS3 and Nikon capture Nx. No game!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Or you could put together new spec is fine for me. I don't need monitor. My max would be $1000-1200.
Thanks everyone!!!!!!!!!!!

Hello and welcome to the forums mate :) i hope it will be a good year for u and your family too :)

well that config u choosed is good, get a OCZ STEALTHXSTREAM 600W for PSU

if u can go with 4GB memory too, but if u cant then that 2GB u have choosed is a very good RAM

Yep I agree with Maziar. Good choice of CPU for CS3 but do try and go for 4gb with that. Also you may benefit from a slightly more powerful GPU depending on how much video editing you do but that should work fine.

The Q6600 is the best choice for video editing.
The aBit IP35Pro is probably overkill, but it's a very good motherboard so good choice there too.
Agreed with the others about the RAM, get 2x2GB RAM (better than 4x1GB).

The video card you picked is an 8600GTS. It's overkill for "No game!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!".
I would recommend 8500GT instead, unless the price is about the same where you live.

I'm assuming you will not overclock.

Have you picked a hard disk yet? You need something big and with a good transfer rate when working with large files. Good examples are WD7500AAKS (Western Digital 750GB) and Samsung Spinpoint F1 (1TB).

Edit: About the video card. The 8500GT is cheaper than the 8600GTS, less powerful, quiet, and will handle video editing all right IMO. However, you could also take nzxtlexa's advice and get something even more powerful than the 8600GTS, for example an HD 3850. It will make it easier to resell the computer later, if you want. It would also help if you're stuck babysitting some kid and put some game in to keep him busy. :)
