hay,

Im going to build a system for a friend of mine, and i thought it could.nt harm to ask you what you think of it.

it's a pretty tight budget, but i think it'll perform good for today's standards.

CPU: AMD 64 x2 6400+ black edition
Motherboard: MSI K9A2 Platinum (with the new amd 790fx chipset, supports quad crossfire :P!)
RAM: Geil ultra series ddr2 800 mhz, cas latency 4-4-4-12 (2x 1024mb)
GPU: Gigabyte VGA Radeon HD3870
CPU cooler: Artic Freezer 64 pro
Hard disk: Samsung SpinPoint T133 400 GB, 7200 Rpm, 16 MB (s-ata)
DVD-RW: Lite-On DVD-RW (they say it's the fastest on the market, but it's also pretty cheap)
PSU: OCZ StealthXtream 600 Watt (thanks to jtt283 :P)

I already adviced him to wait for the stuff coming out in Q1 2008, because this could be a bit of a waste of money when new stuff comes out. But his old pc broke down, so he needs a new one as soon as possible.

With al the extra's (keyboard, mouse, headset, case) it comes down to € 910,_

I live in holland, so its in euro's but is about 1336,_ USD.

But if you skip al the extra's, and only go for: cpu, gpu, motherboard, cpu cooler, ram and psu, it'll be around € 620.

that's about 910,_ USD wich i think is a reasonable price for a potentual "Gaming" system.

what do you think about this?

thanks in advance!

XION is on tier-5 ("Do not buy" ) of the PSU listing at http://www.tomswiki.com/page/Tiere [...] gs?t=anon.
If at all possible, choose one from tier-3 or better.

There is ALWAYS a drone. Exactly where, or how many drones you will encounter may vary, but that there will be at least one will not.

It all looks good now.

I'd prefer a Western Digital instead of Spinpoint, but it's just because I've used lots of WDs without problems.
Look at this list and try to get something closer to the top.
