According to the author of RealTemp, the Tjmax of the 45nm processors is, in fact, 95C as oppsed to the 105C that Core Temp assumes. This means that, assuming RealTemp is correct (I use it and it gives pretty reasonable temps for an E8500), your processor is running 10C lower than what you're seeing there. But even 64C sounds very hot for stock. |

Chuck, next time you remove the heatsink use a razor blade and check if your processor and Heatsink are in fact flat...

I thought it could be that I had too much thermal compound on, so I reseated and took a pic.

I'm not very good with TIM, but I thought of another possible cause of heat: if you have the mobo on auto volts it could be overvolting the CPU. Mine consistently gives me processor almost 0.2V more than it needs at whichever speed I have it, if I let it automatically choose volts. Check your VID with CoreTemp or something and try setting it manually (Vdroop may mean that you'll have to set it a little higher than the VID in the BIOS for stability): with my P5B Deluxe, I can't even set my volts at my VID - lowest I can set it in BIOS is 1.1V, VID is 1.03V or something like that, but it's better than auto voltage of 1.26V... |

I am running a Q9300 on an Asus P5N-T Deluxe with a bargain OCZ Vanquisher heat sink. Right now I am testing for a few days at 2.9Ghz and my temps using CoreTemp are around 56c on idle and up to 63-64c under load. My Asus pcprobe software is saying 55c under load - not sure which one I should go by as I am a peecee newbie. The Intel specs on the q9300 say Thermal Spec of 71.4c. Thought I would give you my readouts for comparison.
