SLI 7950GT or 8600GT
Forum Graphic & Displays : Nvidia SLI 7950GT or 8600GT
Hi, I recently got 2 8600GT's(512mb), and I can't decide to keep them or if I would be better off selling them and getting another 7950GT to go with the one I have. And as a side note, would a single 8800gt be better than both of these cards in SLI?

7950GT http://www.xfxforce.com/web/produc [...] nId=677234
Comp specs: nForce 680i mobo
ZEROtherm BTF90 HSfan(http://www.newegg.com/Product/Prod [...] 6835887002)
3 more fans (I have adequate cooling.)
Core 2 Quad 6600
4 gigs PC8500 SLI-ready Ram(running XP 64bit windows)
1000watt PSU
I am hoping to play games like CoD4 and BattleField and run them smoothly on high settings.
Thanks in advance for your input.
Single 8800 GT > 7950 GT SLI > 8600 GT SLI
Disclaimer: I'm not entirely sure about the accuracy of what I just said.
Yes a single 8800 GT is better than both of those cards in SLI.
On this VGA chart for Oblivion, the 2 cards in SLI are almost the same:

Mugen 2 Rev B
XFX 2x 5870 CF

Trialsking: Thanks for the chart, but that only lists an 8600GT 256mb SLI setup, while my two 8600GT's are 512mb. The 512mb's would be a bit better than the 256mb's, correct?
Also, would the 8600GT 512mb SLI setup be able to run games without any problems, or do I need a better GPU?
the memory will make no differences, 8600 GT's are sorry cards for gaming, the 84/8600 and 24/2600 from ati are only really useful as HTPC and media rigs. Although the 8600 GTS and 2600XT aren't THAT bad..BUT...compared to the 8800GT and 3850/3870..They are garbage. Sell the 8600 gt's, sell or keep the 7950GT...Get yourself a 8800 GT and enjoy. Two cards are never better then one in most cases....Unless we're talking about dual 8800 GT's against a GTX ^_^..in which case I'd take up in a second.
The 8600 is a nice card to have in your laptop

Hahaha...cut em so they'll fit
(I remembered an old thread where a poster's card either 6800/7800GTX PCIe (can't remember) were cut
buy his friend so it'll fit in AGP slot
)

better have a 15 cell battery ready if you aren't always plugged in, those cards eat more power than the screen (not at idle)
Point in fact,2 8800GTs in SLI beat out 2 8800GTXs in SLI,with a mild overclock to the GTs.So forget about the 8600s,they're crap for gaming.Buy 1 8800GT now and another in a month or so when money permits. But then again if you can afford to buy 2 7950GTs at the same time, you should be able to get 2 8800GTs for around the same price.Goodluck.
