Thread : Selecting Drives for RAID
|

More Information

I want to change my system to use RAID 0. I currently have a 250 gb SATA drive with a 32 mb cache. I have not created a RAID setup since before SATA drives came out. At the time, I was using exact duplicate drives. This time however, I am considering saving myself $25 or so and getting a 250 gb drive with a 16 mb cache.

You should always use the same drives in RAID regardless of which level for stability and performance. |

Tomshardware did a great article on heterogenous raid arrays. but for 25 bucks i would air on the side of caution and get identical drives. |

Thanks a lot. I was unsure if the cache made a difference, as you are only writing to the second one and do no reads. But, y'all are right. Why gamble it? |
